who would of thought....
1 Year, 4 Months ago
Well, here I am! My name is Matt. I am going to be a dad.....My fiancée, Catherine, is 18wks pregnant and I couldn't be more proud of her. So, where is my instructions? I can follow blue prints and read a schematic. The best I can do is read my books, keep my arms and legs inside, and enjoy the ride. We thought we were having a boy at first, then it switched to girl. So now that everything went from blue to pink, I think that finally we are mentally prepared for a girl. Catherine and the fetus are healthy so far, and I consider myself lucky. She has been very easy so far. Catherine, and I, have done alot of research together. Hopefully, I can help others and visa versa.

Lots of luck! Certainly check out some of the videos DadLabs has online. Highly recommended as well is the DadLabs DVD on Labor and Delivery and their book on the first year. Make sure to go to as much training as you can both for your own confidence but also for your fiance's. Confidence goes a long way.

Matt,

Good luck and best wishes to you and your bride-to-be (and mom-to-be). I would like to second Ben's suggestion - DadLabs videos and forums are great resources. I watched a lot of the videos before our son was born, and now that he's here, I'm using the forums quite a bit as a place to get advice.

I'd also recommend a birthing class - my wife and I took a 10 week class together and I found it to be an invaluable resource. Even if all of the information didn't apply to us, more often than not, it got us thinking and asking ourselves questions... well, how WOULD we approach such-and-such an issue... and it put us in touch with other expecting couples. There is a topic about birthing classes in one of the forums here.

Take care

Welcome aboard! You're gonna like it here.

All the instruction booklets I've seen are written AFTER the fact, for THAT person's children... Check the packaging with yours, but mine didn't have any. (Though I personally didn't check the packaging...) So far so good though!

Dadchelor Parties

Daddy Clay talks to Beth Feldman, Founder and President of RoleMommy.com about a few "dad trends." Dads are becoming more involved with everything from the very beginning, including doctors appointments and even baby showers. A Dadchelor party is a get together for new Dads that is essentially, diapers for beer. Guest bring diapers and beer is served while you watch movies or maybe the game. At a Dadchelor party, baby kegger, ok, strippers, not ok. (Trust us on this one.) Another great idea for new Dads is to take the Mom-to-be on a "Babymoon" where she gets pampered and can relax. Well, relax as much as one can when building a human. Episode 868
