TOPIC: Twins + 1, Anyone Else?

Twins + 1, Anyone Else?
Hello All!

My name is Ben and I'm married with 3 kids (4.5, 18 month twins). Life is pretty insane right now, especially having recently sold a house and taken a new job.

I love to continually explore fatherhood, and learn how to be better. I look forward to checking out the videos!

Anyone else with twins/multiples? Even if not, I'd love to exchange war stories! Thanks,

-Ben

I have three but spaced in a manageable progression of 3 years a part. I thought I was tired but nothing compared to you. Good Luck and Welcome to the Lab.

Ben,

Welcome to Dadlabs. Its great to see another dad of multiples online. I have 28 month old twin boys. We re considering the +1, but it is a tough decision. 18 months is fun age for twins. They recognize and know each other, but still do the whole parallel play thing. Our boys, one in particular, just realized he has a built in wrestle partner his own size. We're teachign him that wrestling on carpet = good. wrestling on beds and linoleum = bad.

I look forward to seeing you around the labs.

I agree, they are a blast to watch now! All 3 of them are starting to play together. It is really neat to see their relationships evolve as they start to take notice of each other.

Diving off the couch also = bad, as my son found out yesterday. The whole physics thing hasn't really set in yet

Cook, +1? Go for it! But I'm sure you know that your wife has a much greater chance of having twins again, something like 1 in 12 after the first set! This is why we probably will not try for any more, another set of twins would throw our house into absolute chaos (as opposed to the controlled chaos).

Daddy Brad, 3 spaced out over 3 years == TIRED, no matter which way it's sliced!

Welcome @BenGee

I think we ought to do something about the joys and challenges of having twins for the site. Seems like at some point we even thought about having a show dedicated to dads of multiples.

I've got 3 kids, but no twins (11,8,5).

Good to have you around.

Daddy Clay,

I'd be more than happy to participate in a twins show! In a lot of ways, it has been like being a single parent. We each have our own baby, and go to our separate corners. Then our oldest just gets left out.

Fortunately we have an amazing extended family for support, I don't know what we would have done without them! We recently sold our house and actually moved in with my in-laws, which is temporary, but gets us much closer to the family.

I've been on a quest for community for the past year or so, which lead me to make living close to family a priority, as well as lead me to your site. No man is an island, regardless of what our pride tries to tell us.

I don't have much time currently, but I look forward to browsing through the videos on the site, looks like some great content!

It sounds like we are speaking from the same place. Family and a couple friends has kept us in our sanity. My parents took the boys for last Friday night and came back with them Saturday afternoon. After the time with the boys my mom commented quite sincerely that she feels like an inferior parent because of all that we encounter as parents of twins, as opposed to singeltons.

My wife and I get together twice a month with some friends with young families(5 boys within 4 months of each other). We pool our money and hire a couple babysitters to take the kids into the basement for a couple hours so we can have some adult conversation time, uniterrupted. It has been so much of a help having friends with young kids to keep us grounded.

You know, I can't believe that I never considered hiring babysitters but not actually leaving the house! The problem I had was that I could not pry my wife away for us to get some free time, but if she knew the kids were just two rooms away that would have helped.

Thanks for the tip! It's funny, but I think any good parent should have somewhat of an inferiority complex, as long as that feeling is acted upon in a positive way. That burning desire to do good for your family is what drives us to make the major improvements.

Welcome BenGee. No twins here but I grew up as the youngest of 5 kids. My parents had 2 sets of twins before me. It was kinda weird growing up as the + 1 to the + 4. I've often questioned whether or not I was adopted.(I wasn't but it makes a kid think...)

Wow, that's not a common dynamic, I bet you have some interesting stories to tell! I also bet you felt left out quite a bit too, dang...

Dadchelor Parties

Daddy Clay talks to Beth Feldman, Founder and President of RoleMommy.com about a few "dad trends." Dads are becoming more involved with everything from the very beginning, including doctors appointments and even baby showers. A Dadchelor party is a get together for new Dads that is essentially, diapers for beer. Guest bring diapers and beer is served while you watch movies or maybe the game. At a Dadchelor party, baby kegger, ok, strippers, not ok. (Trust us on this one.) Another great idea for new Dads is to take the Mom-to-be on a "Babymoon" where she gets pampered and can relax. Well, relax as much as one can when building a human. Episode 868
