T minus 8 weeks
1 Year, 7 Months ago
Hello everyone,

My name is Roger and I live in Portland, OR. My lovely wife and I are due with our firstborn, a son, in about 8 weeks.

(Technically 7 weeks but I think he's won't be in any hurry to leave the womb).

This has been quite the year for us. We were married in 2009, and we just bought a house about a month ago. You could say we've had a full plate.

I found out about dadlabs.com through the Due Dads videos, which I saw on Netflix. We have just finished our 10 week childbirth class at the hospital, and we have been burning through a lot of books and videos. But I like the angle Troy and Clay take in their material - I'm looking forward to spending some time on the forums and learning some things.

Thanks

Roger
Never changed a diaper in my life, but I guess that will change soon enough

Hi, Roger.

Good luck. I got the intro to DL three years ago with the DVDs from Netflix, too. I don't think they had the web site going full speed yet. A lot has changed in such a short time.

Is Troy on the DVDs? I thought it was just Clay and Brad.

Have a good time with the next few weeks. You may be surprised about how urgently the baby wants out. It seems to turn on a dime. He'll get his seat back and tray able in the upright, head down position, drop down and go for it. It takes some time, but you'll be living on eggshells until the first full week of sleeping through the night!

My cousin left PDX recently and really misses it. So many breweries she frequented. She's in Traverse City, MI now. Not much in the way of breweries up there. I hear the donuts in PDX are great, too. But not lets make Troy regret staying in Austin.

Hi Ben,

Thanks for the warm welcome.

I guess we are expecting our son to be a little bit late, because all of my mother-in-law's children were late. Eight months in, my wife has had the same symptoms as her mom - numb leg (same side even), etc.

You are probably correct, it's Clay and Brad on the videos - I needed some help from Troy to get registered from the forums so his name was on my mind.

Cheers

Roger
Ironically neither of us has ever been to Voodoo donuts, maybe I will make the maiden voyage with my son when he's old enough to metabolically process bacon, maple syrup and fried dough in one package

(edit: we should wait till I'm ready for that, too)

Maybe you can pick up a selection for the morning after you're a dad. They may be more deadly than cigars, though. Certainly more addictive if my wife's last trip to Seattle and HotPot Donuts is any comparison.

Dadchelor Parties

Daddy Clay talks to Beth Feldman, Founder and President of RoleMommy.com about a few "dad trends." Dads are becoming more involved with everything from the very beginning, including doctors appointments and even baby showers. A Dadchelor party is a get together for new Dads that is essentially, diapers for beer. Guest bring diapers and beer is served while you watch movies or maybe the game. At a Dadchelor party, baby kegger, ok, strippers, not ok. (Trust us on this one.) Another great idea for new Dads is to take the Mom-to-be on a "Babymoon" where she gets pampered and can relax. Well, relax as much as one can when building a human. Episode 868
