I can't really figure out the e-mail functionality. I know I can send a "PM" to someone if they already my friend, but I have not been able to locate a central "inbox" or list of messages that I have received/sent.

Am I missing something?

I guess I don't (and probably won't) use this feature very often, but it's a little bit of a tease to see the "PM" icon on some photos.

Re: Website - broken? Contact Us Page

Hey Daddy Troy,
I have been trying to use the Contact Us page for a little while now. I am trying to send an email but when I do everything and press Submit it tells me "Invalid Input". Does that mean my message sent or is it getting stuck?

Weird item: the lil' tab in the upper right corner that says "Hi *username*"... well, my profile and all of my info/photo were correct, but for a few pages, it said, "Hi Funky Dung" So perhaps he logged in at the same time, and it just read the most recent name for that tab position... After a few page clicks, it reverted back to "Hi concretin_nik"...

Weird wild stuff...

Hi NIck,

This just started this morning. I am looking into it right now. I have some developers working on the site, but it should not have affected what everyone sees on the public face of the site.

Thanks for the alert!

Troy

Yeah, I've seen different usernames after logging in too.
I've had one other problem but it's not with this website. It's with the dadlabs videos that are automatically downloaded to my Tivo. The problem is during the intro or first 3-5 seconds of the video I can see the guys but the video is all green and pixelated. The rest of the video is fine. I wonder if anyone else has seen this or if it's just my Tivo. The other videos that Tivo downloads are just fine so I wondered if it might be something on your end.

Bob et al

We have just implemented a caching system in order to speed up the site, and I think this is the cause of the names being mixed up. Working hard to get this corrected.

Also, as for the green on TIVO, it might be due to the fact that we compress our video headers for fast start. I am going to ask the production crew to pick an episode and not compress the headers. Once it is on TIVO I might ask you to give it a look to see if it fixed the problem. Do you know how long it takes for an episode to go from live on our site to being on TIVO?

I'm not sure how long it takes. I usually see it on my Now Playing list before I get a chance to get on the site. What time do you put it up there?

Usually I see the video on Tivo before it posts on DL. Lately, I haven't been paying as much attention.

The green thing is showing up on other pushed content, too. So it's probably not something you're doing.

Good to know ben. I'm sure it's just a Tivo thing then.

What others have done is start with something no one cares about like an ad or a longer opening, sans content. I think it may either be the Tivo conversion or a distribution channel.

One web site thing that's annoying me is that the login is not staying and most of the time I get directed to a secure address but there doesn't seem to be a certificate. The login is more annoying because I'll go to reply and see that I'm logged out. Then I log in and try to remember where I was.

Re TIVO

does anyone see this phenomenon on TIVO on any other vids besides dadlabs?

we have a video coming up about babies first steps to be released on Oct 7th. It does not have a compressed header for fast start. If you watch it, please let me know if it exhibits the same behavior.

troy says:

in your opinion, what would be an optimal time to stay logged in? - i am the kind of guy that likes to stay logged in no matter what, but we were trying to keep security up. would it be ok with our users to set the logout at an hour? two hours? I can flip this switch myself pretty quickly.

ideally we would let you decide in the login menu (e.g stay logged in for two weeks radio button), but that will take some time to implement. I will put it in the hopper.

I've canceled most of the other subscriptions we've had, but it is happening with the Attack of the Show's podcast.

Login time:

I don't see any reason to make it expire. It's not like we're dealing with sensitive data or that there are pay areas of the site. Just having a checkbox to remain logged in with the usual notification that it's not a good idea to do that on a public terminal seems fine to me. Is there a reason for protecting the login?

I think you are right. At this point its more a programming issue than security. I will look into the endless or long term login feature. That will take a little time

I will experiment with longer stay-logged-in-times as for now and see what that does.

we are working hard to reduce page load times, and i will need to how well extended login plays with the cache.

Often, I'd like to just 'Thumbs up' a post like I do on other forums.

Seems like a waste to post a reply just to say 'Good one' where a 'Thumbs up' or 'Cheers' would do.

Just a thought.

@pfanndad

you are totally right.

thanks!

Audio Andy

Thanks for pointing this out.

It is a known bug and has been submitted to our developer to change as a top priority.

I may be wrong, but my understanding of it is such that the login "HI USERNAME" module is being cached and therefore is not updating. Otherwise whatever you do on the site is still you, and you should see in other places your name mentioned correctly.

Hello! Love the site!

Only suggestion I can make is to have your videos organized into a table of contents of some sort. Something along the lines of:
pre-birth
newborn
infant to toddler
toddler to school age
beyond school age.

Of course some videos could be under multiple headings, but that's okay

Other categories could include gadget reviews and any other special topics that would make navigating to the most appropriate videos easy.

@FremontPapa

Thanks for the feedback. We're working with our web team to enhance the search and organization of the videos. We really appreciate your thoughts.

See you around the site!
