Sibling Bunk In
3 Years, 2 Months ago
Our third child is due in July and since my huge stimulus check has yet to arrive, it looks like we are going to have to make due with our current 3BR 2BTH set up. Mom and I get a room, the up at all hours of the night baby gets a room, so brother and sister will have to share for a while.

Any wisdom out there from veteran parents on how to make the room share transition smooth? Bro and Sis are 6 and 3 respectively, get along fairly well and are excited about bunk beds, but I bet the novelty wears off soon. Advice?

i only have a 2BR 2BTH set up so it was very easy to come to the conclusion that my 2 daughters would be spending most of their days together; day and night in the same room.

they actually took to it quite nicely. the oldest had her own room for a while since we kept the youngest in mommy and daddy's bedroom for quite a while. i think we kicked the kid out of our bedroom before she was 1. we are very laid back parents, so i think we rub off on the kids some so they took to it like a fish to water.

the only bad thing now is that if one wakes up then they will both likely wake up because one will just wake the other one up. they love each other a lot though and are best friends and have done it as far back as THEY can remember, so they both have no choice or say in the matter but also have to problem with it.

we did try putting them to bed at different times at first, but kids really need a TON of sleep, so we quickly moved to putting them to bed at the same time. usually 7 or 8 and they get up around 7. and when they started out we did talk to them a lot and break it down for them in their terms. we just did it so early that the oldest (they are 2 years apart in age) thought of it as a baby doll kind of thing. that's probably the only bad thing about it; she still does that at times and it annoys the heck out of her younger sister.

take the good with the bad man! you get your own room still!! we started out with the baby in our room!

keep on rockin man! twitter.com/conedude13

Hope our transition works as smoothly as yours. Thinking of setting bunk beds up this evening and starting them bunking in way early, just to make sure there is no resentment from either towards the new little guy. Hey that little baby stole my room!

Dadchelor Parties

Daddy Clay talks to Beth Feldman, Founder and President of RoleMommy.com about a few "dad trends." Dads are becoming more involved with everything from the very beginning, including doctors appointments and even baby showers. A Dadchelor party is a get together for new Dads that is essentially, diapers for beer. Guest bring diapers and beer is served while you watch movies or maybe the game. At a Dadchelor party, baby kegger, ok, strippers, not ok. (Trust us on this one.) Another great idea for new Dads is to take the Mom-to-be on a "Babymoon" where she gets pampered and can relax. Well, relax as much as one can when building a human. Episode 868
