Bunkbeds- how old for the top bunk?
3 Years, 11 Months ago
With the rare gift of foresight, my wife and I bought one of those new-fangled bunkbeds that set diagonally and includes the chest, shelves, desk et al. within. My son is now 4 and half, and is able to scale and descend the bunk's stair set with bonobo-like agility. My wife thinks our son is too young to take on the top bunk, even though it comes equipped with built-in rails (the whole thing is made of wood). My daughter will eventually take the bottom bunk, but not for a few years yet- she's about to reach the three-month mark.

So any thoughts on what it the right age to take the top bunk?

Cheers,

Daddy Sean, expat dad

With rails, it's pretty tough for a kid to roll out of a bunk bed, though it can be done. When was the last time your kid went THUMP in the night? 4.5 seems like a reasonable age, given his ape-like gifts. I think we were forced by the arrival of the third child to bunk up the other two. Bubba was 6 and Ri-ri was 3 at the time. We're just about ready to upgrade to an Ikea loft because Bubba has outgrown his single top bunk (he's 9 now, almost 10).

Dadchelor Parties

Daddy Clay talks to Beth Feldman, Founder and President of RoleMommy.com about a few "dad trends." Dads are becoming more involved with everything from the very beginning, including doctors appointments and even baby showers. A Dadchelor party is a get together for new Dads that is essentially, diapers for beer. Guest bring diapers and beer is served while you watch movies or maybe the game. At a Dadchelor party, baby kegger, ok, strippers, not ok. (Trust us on this one.) Another great idea for new Dads is to take the Mom-to-be on a "Babymoon" where she gets pampered and can relax. Well, relax as much as one can when building a human. Episode 868
