TOPIC: Language Immersion Schools: Would You?

Language Immersion Schools: Would You?
2 Years, 6 Months ago
Several parents that I really respect have recently enrolled their pre-schoolers in language immersion schools like the one we profiled in our recent video. Would you consider such a program or have you enrolled your child in one? Tell us about your decision making process, and/or what the results have been with your child.

Tell us your multi-lingual stories here.

We have reverse immersion going right now. My wife claims it's Ewok, but I'm not so sure. Did Ewok history include a fascist dictator?

The only elementary language "immersion school" in our district focuses on Latin Grammar! We're probably going to send the kids to the unaffiliated private school. There are so many church school systems in town, doing the private school thing isn't abnormal.

Now, should we need to relocate into West Chicago because of job relocation, we'll start over, I'm sure.

Probably would not, but I would encourage them to take Spanish in high school instead of French, like I did. Boy, that was a dumb idea.

I absolutely would. Learning a second language early helps kids with their language skills in general. When we were potentially going to move to Chicago, I did a lot of research on schools (even though we hadn't even gotten to the point of being settled enough to have children), and one of my top choices was LaSalle Language Academy, which offers like a half-dozen different language programs.

I've known of a few different couples that have taught their children second languages. Some did it because they thought it was fancy, and others did it out of a genuine sense of giving the children the gift of a second language.

In Canada, all students get a couple of years of French, (if I remember correctly), however, we're opting for Spanish Immersion. We have a nearby school that accepts students for billingual Spanish.

To make sure we're not wasting out money, I gave my wife Spanish lessons at the community college for Christmas.

Now I have to plan a trip to Cuba or Mexico so she has a chance to use it.

Expensive, but it's only money....

Dadchelor Parties

Daddy Clay talks to Beth Feldman, Founder and President of RoleMommy.com about a few "dad trends." Dads are becoming more involved with everything from the very beginning, including doctors appointments and even baby showers. A Dadchelor party is a get together for new Dads that is essentially, diapers for beer. Guest bring diapers and beer is served while you watch movies or maybe the game. At a Dadchelor party, baby kegger, ok, strippers, not ok. (Trust us on this one.) Another great idea for new Dads is to take the Mom-to-be on a "Babymoon" where she gets pampered and can relax. Well, relax as much as one can when building a human. Episode 868
