TOPIC: Push Present for Mom: Ideas?

Push Present for Mom: Ideas?
1 Year, 10 Months ago
Since 2005, an increasing number of dads in the US (38% according to one 2007 poll) are presenting their partners with "push presents" or "baby baubles" either shortly before or after labor.

What are your thoughts on this practice?

Did you or will you present your spouse with a push present?

What makes for a great baby bauble? Specifics would be appreciated.

I believe that it is a good idea since for the most part they are the ones carrying around the baby and putting up the extra weight which may I add that I haven't stop hearing about that since day 1. But, all in all I believe that they deserve it so I will be getting my wife a little something. As of now I have no idea what it will be but I'm still looking into it. Recently I went into Tiffany's (not a chance I'm gonna be spending 1000 or more) but they had really nice silver charm bracelets which had different things to put on it. The one I like had a couple of baby stuff which I know she'll love and it only went for I believe its 200 which is reasonable. Plus I think the blue box is the main show because when woman see that they go crazy no matter what's inside, I know this first hand since my wife's V-day present was a silver chain which only ran me 120 and she hasn't took it off since. So that's an idea but I'm still searching around as well so If you run across something please tell me because I'm still stuck.

Def. a good idea. But not dishes DaddyClay, not for this.

My wife got a dozen roses. And will get a dozen roses on TheBoy's birthday forever. She builds good baby. It's the least I can do.

I did. I don't know that it was necessarily a "push present" in the "Good Job , Honey. I'm so proud of you." way. But more a way to mark the moment. It came out once she had recovered and it definitely had a match to the birth. It has both boy's birthstones in it. I think I gave her something with the first boy's when she'd recovered from his birth, too.

Now the flowers, I like.

I think that grandparents should give the family a present, too. Cleaning Service for six months would be a good way to go there.

I'd be happy with sushi and a beer It's been a long, sushi-less nine months. I can taste that crunch roll already...

No, Concretin, I did NOT do forks for this. I went more with Ben's concept of marking the moment. I found Baccarat crystal baby blocks that I had engraved with the kids initials (we had always picked out the names). I also loved these cute customized plates from Noble Clay (also like the name) from Maine.

Also, I was really into the "push picnic." I would get a bottle of my wife's very favorite wine, and a tiny snack, and we would celebrate. That was a really precious moment, actually.

Maaaaaaaaaaaaan, I thought this was scam! They really have this? My wife's been mentioning for a while, but I thought it was something she just made up as joke. (I mean seriously "push present" sounds made up, right?)

Now I have to go shopping too!

Ball=DROPPED

It was a really chaotic time leading up to the birth and things didn't really settle down after that either. I completely forgot about the push present thing. I was planning to have flowers at the hospital if nothing else. Well... I feel like a horse's patute. Guess I'll have to make Mothers Day extra special.

Oh, I did order a new video camera, at her request, just before our son was born...Yeah, I know it doesn't count. That sounded a lot better in my head.

Push Present?!?!?!

I believe that the great scam of Valentine's day was perpetrated upon us in exactly the same manner!

Why must history repeat?

DaddyClay: What definition of customize "PLATE" doesn't fit the term DISH?

I'm not judging or anything, I just find your (and/or perhaps your wife's) affection for dishes as gifts a bit odd. (Though quite amusing.)

Year of the Dad

Episode 845 - Year of the Dad. What's trending in 2012? Dads! Laurie Gelman, co-host of The Mom Show talks about the shifting roles of primary care givers from Mom to Dad. There's also the scarier trend of reality TV/YouTube/internet fame influencing parenting. Parents need to be more aware of what children are watching. The American Academy of Pediatrics recommends no more than 2.5 hours of "screen time" which includes ALL screens, not just TV. One way to battle technology and hours and hours of texting, bad youtube videos, and generally bad programming is family dinner. Unplug and spend genuine quality time with your family.

eProofing Your Wireless Network

Daddy Clay points out the importance of setting up a secure wireless network. It's easy to with the software that comes with your router, and can be done via the "Network and Sharing Center" control panel on PCs, or the Airport Utility on Macs. Giving the access code out also can allow access to your personal files on devices on that network. Some routers like the Linksys e4200 offer Dual Zone, Guest Zone, or SSID features which allow you to set up access to the internet, but NOT your other devices on the network. Shutting down the network is a great way to limit family access and controlling time limits for your children, particularly during certain times like study time, family dinner, or even overnight.
