I just saw the Christmas Present discussion pop back up to the top of the forum list and thought I would ask you guys what sort of creative things you have done or are planning to do for Mother's Day.

Do you do a gift from dad and a gift from the children?

I was talking with my friend yesterday and I think we're going to get our wives gift certificates for pedicures, and a free afternoon for them to go together to get those pedicures. They went on their own last year and we're thinking that it was win-win for us and them.

So, what are you doing for the big day?

Walker, Ella and I are going to make a nice brunch for Mom. I am actually going to film a segment of this today. Betty from Average Betty is going to show me how to prepare this brunch. It's green chili casserole, coffee cake, fresh fruit and mimosas! Since the kids are kids and my wife is pregnant I guess I'm the only one that will enjoy the mimosas. We will also pick out a nice little gift. Pedicures and free afternoons are always appreciated, good suggestion.

Wow - that sounds like a good meal to me! The heck with Mama, I would chow down on that before it gets to her!! :o)

Daddy Brad and Average Betty are shooting a episode today about making a meal for your spouse. Always a winner (if you can cook worth a damn). I think the pedicure idea is a really good one. In the past I have sort of combined those two concepts by giving my wife a gift certificate to take a friend to a cooking class at a local upscale grocery (called Central Market here in Austin).

This year, Hm. It's been a while since she went to the spa. Also ages since we went out to dinner together. The variety of choices here indicates that I may have been a little lacking in the marriage maintenance department lately. I'll update when I make my final decision.

We had so much going on last year that Mother's Day was sorta lost in the chaos. I'd like to make this year something more special. I'm leaning towards a nice pendant and a pedicure gift certificate...

Might I suggest a diaper free weekend as well? I have some out of the house stuff to do Saturday, but when I'm home all weekend, she changes no diapers.

(Wondering if she'll dig a Nintendo DS - she's mentioned one several times... hmmm... probably should go shopping Saturday too.)

I guess it's time to blow the dust of this thread because it's getting to be that time of year again. Any ideas from 2009 that worked? Any new ideas for 2010?

Daddy Clay points out the importance of setting up a secure wireless network. It's easy to with the software that comes with your router, and can be done via the "Network and Sharing Center" control panel on PCs, or the Airport Utility on Macs. Giving the access code out also can allow access to your personal files on devices on that network. Some routers like the Linksys e4200 offer Dual Zone, Guest Zone, or SSID features which allow you to set up access to the internet, but NOT your other devices on the network. Shutting down the network is a great way to limit family access and controlling time limits for your children, particularly during certain times like study time, family dinner, or even overnight.
