This made me lol, until it made me scared to watch the last episode. I'm waiting for the whole season to come out since I missed almost all of it. I really hope they didn't cheapen the whole series with a crappy ending no one understands.

Great shows and movies. I see some that I've forgotten and some I'll be sure to check out.

@clay, Sorry I guess I'm a correcter by nature and I can't take it anymore. I'm a big fan of Eastwood's films but I'm pretty sure that's not one of them. I think it was Francis Ford Coppola who directed Apocalypse Now...

@krellpw How have you liked the new season of Good Eats? I think it's been pretty solid so far. I'd say my favorites are Don't Be Chicken of Dumplings and Porterhouse Rules. I'm kinda impressed by the home dry aging and his second innovative use of the chimney starter.

@bobjr79 - I haven't made as much time for Good Eats this season as in previous seasons, but I DID catch the Porterhouse Rules. I thought it was brilliant the way he used that chimney starter! I'm a gas griller for the convenience, but that was nearly enough to inspire me to get a starter just to try cooking that way. Have you tried it?

@bobjr79

I should have been more explicit. I meant Apocalypse Now and *anything* directed by Clint Eastwood.

I had a 4 LP complete soundtrack to Apocalypse Now that I listened to endlessly as a kid (I know, I know). Would not be confused about FFC directing.

Not to be defensive or anything.

And I worship Good Eats. If we had a few more production resources and a more normal production calendar, I would be ripping it off more blatantly.

Top 5 movies of all time -- please understand I'm addicted to science fiction -- and I'm seeing almost all my titles reflect that:
1. Gattaca (yay Daddy Troy)
2. Serenity (arguably this generation's Star Wars)
3. Metropolis (can't sit through the original 1917 film? Get the anime. Kids will love it.)
4. Kubrick films.
5 Any movie with music by Irving Berlin. They just don't make them like they use to. Class act movies.

----
Top 5 tv shows of all time.
1. Doctor Who -- check it out folks, very family friendly, different every week, time travel, aliens.
2. Star Trek (yeah yeah. I told you.)
3. Buffy the Vampyre Slayer -- say what you want, but Whedon's take on adolescence is a great show for any teen who is an outcast, or anyone looking for a strong female protaganist.
4. Nova.
5. The Simpsons. The great equalizer.

I'm going with the top 5 TV shows.
1. Lost
2. 24, even though it got redundant at the end.
3. Journeyman. Only lasted one season, but I loved it. Look it up on HULU.
4. Friends. Just plain comedy genius.
5. Modern Family. It's recent but it wins out over Cheers and Seinfeld. Barely.

Top 5 movies:
1. Star Wars. All 6 of them count as 1.
2. Terminator. Only 1 and 2, even though the latest one wasn't bad.
3. The Hangover
4. Talladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby.
5. Dumb and Dumber. Classic.

Year of the Dad

Episode 845 - Year of the Dad. What's trending in 2012? Dads! Laurie Gelman, co-host of The Mom Show talks about the shifting roles of primary care givers from Mom to Dad. There's also the scarier trend of reality TV/YouTube/internet fame influencing parenting. Parents need to be more aware of what children are watching. The American Academy of Pediatrics recommends no more than 2.5 hours of "screen time" which includes ALL screens, not just TV. One way to battle technology and hours and hours of texting, bad youtube videos, and generally bad programming is family dinner. Unplug and spend genuine quality time with your family.

eProofing Your Wireless Network

Daddy Clay points out the importance of setting up a secure wireless network. It's easy to with the software that comes with your router, and can be done via the "Network and Sharing Center" control panel on PCs, or the Airport Utility on Macs. Giving the access code out also can allow access to your personal files on devices on that network. Some routers like the Linksys e4200 offer Dual Zone, Guest Zone, or SSID features which allow you to set up access to the internet, but NOT your other devices on the network. Shutting down the network is a great way to limit family access and controlling time limits for your children, particularly during certain times like study time, family dinner, or even overnight.
