Holiday Entertaining Bandwidth: What's Your Limit?
42 Years, 5 Months ago
We've just finished a run of dinner parties at our house, and by last night I was feeling a bit of busboy fatigue. We did dinner for 10 for my wife's birthday (yes, she threw her own party), then gourmet steaks for her folks, then all the grandparents together last night. It's leftovers for a couple of nights before the our traditional Christmas Eve feast. How often can you handle entertaining during the holidays? Is it an important part of your tradition, or just a big pain in your butt?

I realize the importance of entertaining as it relates to the holidays, but after two to three weeks I get burned out. I try to keep up for my wife, but want to simplify the schedule. Non the less, cheers and MERRY Christmas!

We tend to be on the road at Christmas. That allows us to aim for a big party a week or two after New Year's to give folks a break. This year it's a 10th Day of Christmas party with the theme being anything from 10 on down. We most want to have a 12th Night party but two years ago it was a First Fortnight party. We haven't managed to get the 12th night to be on a weekend recently.

I prefer to be entertained. We don't host, yet. Our house is simply too small. Someday, I hope to host alot of events...

Though, being entertained sucks too when ya gotta travel 2 hours here, 5 hours there... But it is important to see everyone during the holidays. It just is. Especially if it's not a hardcore religious thing for you. For me, it is definitely a family time, and family is sacred. Funny how it all seems more important as I'm older and a Dad now...

I think my wife enjoys entertaining much more than I do. I actually don't enjoy throwing too many parties. I agree that I prefer to go to other places. I don't mind hosting, but we don't do it very often. We also don't have enough people around to throw parties with. Everyone is so busy we can hardly get anyone together for a meal. I think over time my wife would like to host more, but that was probably a lot easier when we didn't have a baby around. I don't think we would definitely do as many parties as Daddy Clay. That sounds about as many as we would do during a year.

Dadchelor Parties

Daddy Clay talks to Beth Feldman, Founder and President of RoleMommy.com about a few "dad trends." Dads are becoming more involved with everything from the very beginning, including doctors appointments and even baby showers. A Dadchelor party is a get together for new Dads that is essentially, diapers for beer. Guest bring diapers and beer is served while you watch movies or maybe the game. At a Dadchelor party, baby kegger, ok, strippers, not ok. (Trust us on this one.) Another great idea for new Dads is to take the Mom-to-be on a "Babymoon" where she gets pampered and can relax. Well, relax as much as one can when building a human. Episode 868
