Happy, indeed! Great to be back home after a few days in Sweden. The return trip took 24 hours. Jet lagged Father's Day is still a good Father's Day.

Actually, we've been talking about it for quite some time. We both have SUVs, and I'm too stubborn to get rid of mine, and in her field of work, she NEEDS hers. We work in opposite directions so we can't do the drop one off at work thing. I've always wanted a motorcycle and with gas prices being what they are, I figured now is as good of a time as any to get one. I took courses on cycle riding, and I got my license and everything, but I wouldn't get one unless she said it was okay. Yesterday morning she got me up and said Let's go get your Father's Day gift and there it is, a Kawasaki ZX10-R.

Thanks! It was my first one and it was a blast! Had a couple other families over for a BBQ that was out of this world! (be sure and check the bbq post too for my thoughts on how it should be done right)

This was my first Father's Day as a Dad and it was great! I got a great b&w photo of my wife & son to hang in my office.

Plus, the local newspaper ran a front page (in Section article about our adoption story. That was a real kick and doubly nice (and a big surprise) that they held the article to publish it on Father's Day. Here's a link if you're interested:

From Russia With Love

I got the hard luck Father's Day; the whole family had completely forgotten about it. Understandable under the circumstances, as we were all so busy- we've got a demanding (what other kind is there?) 3-month-old to tend to, a 4-year-old terror from tiny town to placate, a move at the end of the week, 60 grade 5 and 6ers to grade and write reports on, let alone hammer out my thesis proposal by months' end (whenever I get around to starting it, anyway). It was Tuesday before we realized the grave omission. My wife, who is Thai, consoled me with the promise to celebrate the traditional Thai father's day instead. Nice one, you'd think- I thought the same until I found out the Thai father's day is 5 December. Zing!

A shout out to Daddy Rob- that's a lovely story about your adopted son, Liam's a lucky little boy to have found you and your wife as parents; besides, you just can't go wrong with an Irish name, either (my son's name is Seamus). I appreciate that you are not going to let him forget where he came from as well- it's ever a challenge to strike a balance with a child of multiple cultures. Well done.

Thanks Clay & ExPat!

You'd be surprised at how many people either don't understand how to pronounce Liam (my wife's Mom called him Lemon the first time she met him!) or understand why on Earth a guy with a last name like O'Daniel would want his child to have an Irish name. (:::smacking hand on forehead::

Anyway, it worked out well that his original Russian first name was their version of Matthew (complete with a coupla letters we don't even feature in our alphabet) so we kept the American version of that for his middle name.

Dadchelor Parties

Daddy Clay talks to Beth Feldman, Founder and President of RoleMommy.com about a few "dad trends." Dads are becoming more involved with everything from the very beginning, including doctors appointments and even baby showers. A Dadchelor party is a get together for new Dads that is essentially, diapers for beer. Guest bring diapers and beer is served while you watch movies or maybe the game. At a Dadchelor party, baby kegger, ok, strippers, not ok. (Trust us on this one.) Another great idea for new Dads is to take the Mom-to-be on a "Babymoon" where she gets pampered and can relax. Well, relax as much as one can when building a human. Episode 868
