TOPIC: Get That Thing Outta My House

Get That Thing Outta My House
43 Years, 5 Months ago
I convinced my wife to let me take down the garland above the mantle, because it was likely to burst into flames if you burped too close. But she is adamant that we keep the tree up until the Epiphany, which I think is right around Arbor Day in June. The tree is as dry as a Baptist Fundamentalist county in Eastern Kentucky and I'm worried about spontaneous combustion.

I'm interested in Christmas Decoration Take Down Traditions. When's too soon and when's too late?

Epiphany is January 6th. Not too long.

Pentecost is June (well, May 31 this year), and would be great for burning that baby up.

If I had my house lights on I'd argue to keep them going until Independence Day. But 12 Days of Christmas works for me.

Took the tree down (the only thing we did this year) last Saturday. 3 hours up, 2 hours down (including storage). While I'm stoked with the limited time, we also only had it up for about 9 days... so that sucked...

I usually try to use the week after Christmas to get it taken down, but no later than the first weekend of January. Next year might be quite a bit longer, as I hope to do more Winter deco, at least on the outside of the house... we'll see.

As for Eastern Kentucky, you just can't BUY beer in those counties... but it's there. They just don't TALK about it.

Too soon is right after Christmas. We do it on New Year's Day or the adjoining weekend, like this year.

Too late is leaving them up year round. Where banjos play.

our baby arrived on dec 29th, so I may not have time to take them down till the grandparents arrive on the 15th. In my case it's understandible, but my general rule is by the time school/work starts back up in jan.
