I have been struggling too we are 8 weeks now. We have told close family. And I have told a couple of select close friends. We will wait till 12 to tell the whole world.

We had a hard time to keep it a secret in this age of facebook. My mom almost outed us. I had to delete posting from my wall immediately. I have disabled posting to my wall altogether just to be safe.

I know it's tough but you gotta bite your tongue. One way to think of it is that you and your sweetie have this unbelievable secret and you are the only two in the world that know. Provides a great bonding experience with you and the Missus.

Keeping the secret doesn't seem so hard once you've been told and then had to be told the sad news. With Tristan, we didn't wait as long. We had early confirmation of stability with an ultrasound at 4 or 6 weeks. I forget exactly how it works, but once they get the heartbeat in the right range, the odds of something catastrophic go way down.

We went to a zoo with two families when Deborah was early in the last pregnancy. One family was excited about her being pregnant. The other, not so much. They'd lost a pregnancy a couple months earlier. Protocol gets thrown for a loop there. That probably strained our friendship enough to go from good to distant friends.

Anyway, good luck with holding onto the secret. It's a team game, by the way. If you can hold off by giving yourselves an award or having a steep penalty for the first to spill the beans, it's all good.

We hit 12 weeks last week. My best man knew about the pregnancy from about week 6 and I'd sworn him to silence until after the 12 week appointment. We told him he could let the word out, just not on Facebook because we have a lot of friends who deserved phone calls, not reading about our big news on their walls. The first thing he did was post something on Facebook, which leaked the news and effectively stole our thunder for telling people.

Tell everyone as loud as you want. One thing I didn't expect was tepid reactions from several friends. I got great reactions from a lot of people, but others didn't seem to care. I'm excited. Good luck telling everyone.

I say screw what other people think. As long as you and the misses are excited. The wife and I have our first big appointment tomorrow. I'm super excited. Too bad I have to work afterwards. congrats to you by the way.

When we first found out my wife was pregnant it was following a couple years of fertility isues. We found out on a Friday and the next day I went golfing with one of the best men from our wedding. It was the first time I'd had the chance to talk with him about all the challenges we were going through and the treatments, all the while having just found out my wife was pregnant, most likely with twins.

I didn't dare tell him, but it was for self preservation reasons. Our struggles for the 2 preceeding years would only be magnified if the pregnancy wasn't viable. But I've got to tell ya, it was the best round of golf I've ever had.

I also found that some people give this bah hum bug response. I say just ignore them. I love the friends who scream and hug. Maybe it gives me a better idea who the really good friends are. I guess its hard for people to match the excitement that we have but I love the ones who do.

For some, a friend's first child is like losing a friend so a slow, consuming disease. And it makes sense. Once the pregnancy begins they're less likely to go out when drinks are involved. The pregnant woman gets less and less tolerant of late nights or strenuous activity and usually has a fuse that no one had found before. A lot changes in 9 months. It's hard for people who are expecting that side to be excited about losing touch, even if there's a chance later on to catch up and start over.

I think it's better if people are just blasé instead of pretending to be happy and then backing out of everything as they feel more and more left out. I don't know that it makes them bad people. It's a tough transition and often there's more behind it than you may realize.

Dadchelor Parties

Daddy Clay talks to Beth Feldman, Founder and President of RoleMommy.com about a few "dad trends." Dads are becoming more involved with everything from the very beginning, including doctors appointments and even baby showers. A Dadchelor party is a get together for new Dads that is essentially, diapers for beer. Guest bring diapers and beer is served while you watch movies or maybe the game. At a Dadchelor party, baby kegger, ok, strippers, not ok. (Trust us on this one.) Another great idea for new Dads is to take the Mom-to-be on a "Babymoon" where she gets pampered and can relax. Well, relax as much as one can when building a human. Episode 868
