Would you rather vacuum or clean the carpets?

I'll admit that I find vacuuming the house to be a very satisfying and zen chore. The hum of the machine and the little tracks in the carpet soothe my tempestuous soul. Maybe I was born to be a groundskeeper. But that is for another thread.

I was recently at the Home and Housewares show in Chicago as a "Hoover Insider" and while I was touring the Hoover/Dirt Devil booth, one of the bread reps piped up that the carpet cleaning machines were much more popular with dads than the vacuums. The mom bloggers chimed in with agreement. Their husbands would much rather run the carpet or floor cleaner than the vacuum.

What?

Am I some sort of freak? I would never come near our carpet cleaner, and not just because it is made by a Hoover competitor. That thing terrifies me. There are lots of parts and mixing. It makes me stressed just thinking about it.

Would you really rather shampoo than vacuum the rug? If so let me know and I promise not to judge (freak).

I am with you. I enjoy the vacuum and dislike the carpet cleaner. Vacuuming is like doing a nice relaxing crossword puzzle but carpet cleaning is like writing a technical manual for a combustion engine. No Thanks. I like to sweep too.

I'd say the 'general consensus' is that BECAUSE the 'cleaner' is more complicated, the average guy feels that's more manly than a vacuum. I can see that. But I'd also be willing to bet it's a lazy ass thing too. The cleaner doesn't have to be run weekly. It might be more work when it does, but it's a less often task, so I'd bet those dudes are diggin' that part of it.

I defend my man card for so much already.

It's no sweat for me to say I'd MUCH rather vacuum. You guys are right. There's an immediate sense of accomplishment and visual recognition of your completed task.

How's that clean sink thing going Daddy Brad? I've been keepin' up on the dishes, and I gotta say, it is rather satisfying to walk into the kitchen and see no dishes, or very few when I have to do them.
