It's totally lame. I think it makes breast feeding Moms look stupid.

I'm all for BF and BF in public. With discretion. BFing in public, to make a point, is stupid. Just because you CAN, doesn't mean you should. Doing it just hoping some one says something or looks at you funny so you can school them on "nature" and such is LAME. BF discreetly because you have to be there and have to feed your kid, makes total sense. If it truly is just to feed your baby, then it's fantastic. If it's because you're the "all empowered Mom and you'll BF anywhere you damn well please," well, you're doing the Mom thing wrong to begin with. THAT cover photo, completely depicts the lame Mom. IMO.

Disclaimer: All of this said, from a man's perspective. I have no idea about the trials and pains (and joys) of nursing a child. And I have NO DESIRE to take over that responsibility. I ALWAYS say when it comes to reproduction, "It's good to be a man."

I WILL say, I know what discretion is. I have an "in public" filter. Am I uncomfortable BF in public? No, I'm a man, I don't BF. Would I have been uncomfy with my wife doing it with abandon and blatantly public? Yes, yes I would.

As for ages... Yea, I think it's weird to have a walking talking toddler asking Mom for milk, directly from the faucet. Again, it's a personal thing, but something like a 5 year old, in a grocery store, yea, I think that's weird. But I can be a judgmental sumbich and I think people who can't even get out of their pajamas to go to the store are fairly lame too. (I'm working on the judgement thing... "Hate less." I tell myself this OFTEN in my head.)

C,mon Nik, he's just a cute little 60 month old!

Yeah, that's a creepy photo.

(For the record; we BF.)

For me, the cover is less about BFing and more about how desperate Time is to get some online buzz.

Okay, Time, you've zapped the mommybloggers, you've got the internet's attention. I'll click through and look at your content.

What's that you say? All your articles are behind a paywall? Well that kind of draws your strategy into question. And it means that I'm left with nothing to comment on but the cover.

Well, you did make this funny and honest post from Nathan Thornburgh from DadWagon public. I really enjoyed reading that.

Okay, well, Time, it's been a nice check in. Now I'm going back to ignoring you.

Like Daddy Clay, I think it's a sensationalist attempt at generating sales.

I also think it's a misrepresentation of Attachment Parenting. My wife and I consider ourselves to be avid practitioners of attachment parenting. But we have no intention of nursing our children long term. In fact we're trying to wean our 17 month old as I write this.

AP is not a set of black-and-white tenets that you have to follow. There's a lot of shades of gray in any parenting approach.

I'll chime in despite not having yet read the article. [I'm a FT dad--who's got time to read??] I subscribe to Time anyway, so it doesn't generate any additional interest in the mag for me. I think the topic is a legit & timely one [no pun intended], but that photo is gratuitous & indulgent. That said, I have no problem with it.

I think that this self-declared poster mom for AP is an extreme example of it. AP is not, like most things, an all-or-nothing proposition. There is a continuum & parents can pick & choose what & how to apply to their family.

We exclusively BFed for 6 months, & transitioned to solids and formula at that time. The formula came in due primarily to supply challenges for us. As our son approaches his first birthday in @ 6 weeks, we will transition the formula [which we are already tapering] to regular milk.

for some levity on the topic: wxerfm.com/blogs/post/jfrieders/2012/may...ly-breast-feeding-m/
