TOPIC: The Presidential Election and Kids

The Presidential Election and Kids
4 Years, 6 Months ago
Will you take your kid with you to vote? Are you guys planning to watch the election coverage with your kids? Will you make an event out of it? Extend bedtimes? Or will it be just another day? Let us know what your plans are, then circle back on Wednesday and tell us how it actually went. Did your kids say anything cute/hilarious during the night?

I hope to put a drop or two of baby drool on my ballot for sure. LOL

Just don't be like this jackass dad in NC...
[CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – Shawn Turschak of Chapel Hill was tired of someone stealing McCain-Palin campaign signs from his yard. Turschak, with a degree in electrical engineering, hooked up a third sign to a power source for an electric pet fence Monday and also put up a surveillance camera.
The News & Observer of Raleigh reported that a 9-year-old boy with an Obama-Biden sign grabbed the McCain-Palin sign and got a jolt on Tuesday.
The boy's father, Andrew Noble, upset that his son had been shocked, showed up at Turschak's door. Soon an Orange County sheriff's deputy also showed up at the Turschak's home.
Noble said his son just wanted to see how the sign was put together. Turschak said the boy intended to swap out the signs.
Sheriff Lindy Pendergrass said he doesn't plan to file charges.]

Don't teach your kids stupid stuff like this, regardless of your particular brand of political koolaid. For real.

Woo hoo! Only 2 more days and it'll be over! No more robo-calls!! (got 5 yesterday!) No more ads on tv! YAY!

Sorry, didn't mean to derail with the first reply... carry on...

I normally don't let my son watch scary things on TV, but I guess I'll make an exception tomorrow night.

I'm wondering what the plan is for projections etc. If they don't start posting projections until the polls close on the West Coast, all the action may come after my kiddos go to bed. I'd like for them to take in some of the excitement, but not at the expense of a good night's sleep.

I'm not so flexible when it comes to bedtime on schooldays.

Since the polls are right across the street and I'll be home with the tot all day, we're going to suit up and brave the traffic in the morning. I'm pretty sure that I'll strap him in the stroller for the trip, even though it's only about 200 yards.

Here in Indiana, you can't buy beer until the polls close, so the old Ohio tradition of going to an Irish Pub (for me a Fado) to watch the exit poll numbers won't be happening. However, it's the night of our Beer Judge Certification Program class so we'll have seven or eight guys tasting from the fine selections of German Wheat and Smoke beers. Then I'll come home and watch Indecision 2008 with the wife on our Tivo.

Part one from the Electoral Plan is complete. It only took a little over an hour to vote. Duncan, now six months old, got firm support for his Presidential campaign in 36 years.

We did watch together - the coverage, the landslide, the gracious concession and historic victory speeches. However, being six weeks old, Beatrice just cooed a lot and then got fussy.

I'll admit I cried, embracing over 230 years of American history in one night, and forgiving it.
