Sibling Rivalry
3 Years, 10 Months ago
Two major milestones in our household were accomplished this weekend. My son learned to ride his bike without the assistance of training wheels. My daughter one ups him and decides it is time to make her first deposit directly into the City of Austin's waste management complex. This morning, my son counters with his first lose tooth, I am waiting for her return serve.

Any one else dealing with similar sibling rivalries?

Our oldest two kids are six years apart (11 and 5), so it's less of a rivalry and more of the 5 year old tries to do everything the 11 year old does, and the 11 year old continually gets annoyed with the 5 year old doing everything she does.

It's cute and annoying at the same time.

The sibling rivalry that I am encounter for the last few years has reaffirmed the impact of birth-order on each child. My second son, Kyler age 6, has ALWAYS compared himself to his older brother, Nico age 8, to the point that Kyler will now bow out of things with friends if Nico joins in. He told me that the reason for bowing out is because Nico is always going to win. This typically happens with outdoor play, running, jumping, climbing, biking, etc. The sad thing is, is that Kyler has show more natural ability then Nico, but Nico has the obvious development advantage.

Dadchelor Parties

Daddy Clay talks to Beth Feldman, Founder and President of RoleMommy.com about a few "dad trends." Dads are becoming more involved with everything from the very beginning, including doctors appointments and even baby showers. A Dadchelor party is a get together for new Dads that is essentially, diapers for beer. Guest bring diapers and beer is served while you watch movies or maybe the game. At a Dadchelor party, baby kegger, ok, strippers, not ok. (Trust us on this one.) Another great idea for new Dads is to take the Mom-to-be on a "Babymoon" where she gets pampered and can relax. Well, relax as much as one can when building a human. Episode 868
