TOPIC: Huggies Insults Dad

Huggies Insults Dad

This never gets old...

Huggies decided to launch a new advertising campaign to show how good their products are by "putting them to the toughest test, dads, alone with their babies, alone in one house for five days..." You can see the video here... www.facebook.com/video/video.php?v=3019575761858

And followed it up with this one.

Lets just say they pissed off lots of people, especially dads, for playing to these old gender stereotypes. If they put out more videos, I can't find them. They have apologized profusely on Facebook.

They are apparently working on another one that will come out near the end of the month.

Ok, I'm gonna be the surprise here... particularly as a card carrying member of the DadLabs crew... (actually, I don't have any business cards)

I'm not offended.

Lemme 'splain... no, 'tis too much... Lemme sum up...

I hadn't seen the first one above. Yea, that one, the guys are portrayed as bumbling. But the second one(the one I saw when someone mentioned how horrible Huggies were being to Dads), NONE of those Dads seem worried/bumbling/incompetent in any way. The ONLY thing I see stupid about that commercial is calling 'nap time with Dad' the "Ultimate Test." Really? ANY test of a diaper has ZERO to do with which parent is involved.

Those ads aren't for Dads. As involved as Dads are in everything parenting, I'm still willing to bet more diapers are still purchased by Moms. Those ads are for Moms. "Aw look, Dads snuggling with babies..." *swoon* And I honestly don't care.

I AM a bit of an advertising snob, but the commercials above just don't bug me. I am MUCH more irritated by, and I will NEVER buy these:

I would take on any mom in a Diaper changing contest I found early on while changing diapers your face to face with your baby and its a great time to bond. I'm not saying it all smells like roses but to imply Dads are bad at diapers is bad stereotype.

Also from a marketing perspective I'm the one who is picking out the diapers. My wife has not purchased one single diaper.

Here's another "who gives a shit" opinion.

I thought it was funny anyway.
