Good Bye Good Dog Percy
3 Years, 6 Months ago
Our dog Percy died yesterday after 14 years as a faithful family companion. It was a sad day for me as well as for the kids. Lot's of tears all around but a great opportunity to teach our young one's how we say goodbye to friends. Percy will live on in our hearts as well as in the DadLabs Video library and will always bring a smile to our face as we watch him lovingly maul Daddy Owen.

So sorry to hear Daddy Brad. It's so hard to say good bye to those who were there, no matter what.

Many, many Percy stories come to mind. My abiding memory: when DB and I lived in the same neighborhood, whenever Percy would release himself, he would lumber on over to our house and debouch his large self right next to my front door. You needed a step ladder to get over him. I tried to fool myself that it was out of affection that Percy came calling, but the truth is we had the smoothest, shadiest concrete drive in the 'hood and it felt good on his balls. That and the fact that I would give him a pound of sausage just to get his big butt out from in front of the door.

Adios, Amigo.

Thanks for the kind words Andrew. Percy was a big (185lbs no pun intended) part of our family. He will be missed and remembered.

My condolences. A month after my wife and I were married back in 2003, we had to put our beloved Joshua to sleep 10 years after I had adopted him (my old Shihtzu man of the sea). I thought at the time he'd be the only the child I'd ever have. He helped me through some pretty rough times.

Awww... sorry for your loss. We have 2 Australian Cattle dogs, the oldest is 6 years old and I refer to him as my furry first born. He and our other pooch were our practice children. We love them very much. And although over the past 16 months I've often wished that we didn't have pets (giving twin babies AND dogs the attention they deserve is HARD!!!)... I really would be very upset if anything happened to them.

Daddy Brad, I came across this post today. I'm curious and I hope it's not insensitive to ask, but how did you talk to your kids about Percy's death? Not to borrow trouble, but I currently have a 14 year old dog who's health is deteriorating. I also have a 5 year old son that has known this canine companion his whole life. I find myself wandering forward and wondering how we're going to deal with this as a family when the inevitable day arrives.

If there's another blog post that references this, I'd love some direction to it. If there's not, may I suggest a new forum thread on the topic? I'd be glad to initiate it.

krellpw, I will do a blog post about this in the next few days. I will ask Walker about the experience. He still talks about Percy even though we have a new little puppy in the house, but Percy will always be his first dog. Will also share the wisdom of Mommy Liz who helped me with words to use, she is a hospital chaplain so knows a little about the subject.

Dadchelor Parties

Daddy Clay talks to Beth Feldman, Founder and President of RoleMommy.com about a few "dad trends." Dads are becoming more involved with everything from the very beginning, including doctors appointments and even baby showers. A Dadchelor party is a get together for new Dads that is essentially, diapers for beer. Guest bring diapers and beer is served while you watch movies or maybe the game. At a Dadchelor party, baby kegger, ok, strippers, not ok. (Trust us on this one.) Another great idea for new Dads is to take the Mom-to-be on a "Babymoon" where she gets pampered and can relax. Well, relax as much as one can when building a human. Episode 868
