TOPIC: Go Bald WIth Me?

Go Bald WIth Me?
7 Months, 3 Weeks ago
I’m currently growing my hair out. I have two reasons, one vain and one selfless. I don’t know for sure how much hair my genes will let me keep, so I’m enjoying my flowing follicular fullness while I have it. I’m not keeping my hair long indefinitely, though. It’s a pain to comb and otherwise maintain, and Lily is unpleasantly fond of pulling it. So, I’m planning on eventually getting it cut and donating it to Locks of Love or a similar charity (recommendations welcome). That hair will go to wigs for bald cancer patients.

I’m now considering taking a bolder step, and I’m hoping I can convince some of my minions (I have minions, right?) to join me. Who out there is brave enough to go bald for St. Baldrick’s? The basic gist is that you sign up to be shaved, ask your family, your friends, and strangers to sponsor your zaniness, and maybe con a few of them into joining you. If you do manage to round up some company for your “misery”, St. Baldrick’s can help you organize a group shaving event. Funds raised go to finding cures for childhood cancers.

If I decide to brave the blade, I might as well go all the way, right? Actually, this is something I was planning on doing anyway, but it would complete the trifecta nicely. I’ll be starting November with a completely clean shaven face and grow a mustache – and only a mustache – over the course of the month. It’s called Movember. Get it? The mustache, a fairly rare form of facial follicular fashion these days, helps Mo’s [sic] draw attention to and raise money for male cancers (testicular and prostate).

If I time the Big Shave and hair donation for the end of October, I can combine all three. Cool, ain’t it?

So, who’s in?

Daddy Clay is buckling under peer pressure by poo-pooing the Movember participation this year. I said "Peer Pressure", didn't I? Seems to me that one way to reassert one's leadership role in his household would be shave his face AND head AND then paint himself blue and run around yelling "FREEDOM!!!"

Well, that may be too much, but one month for charity should be easy. Plus you've got to let the skin breathe (and bleed) every once in a while.

But I'm in for Movember for sure. Not the hair, though. I finally managed to work a haircut into our post-move budget. Gotta keep it normal for a while.

1) You have me picturing Daddy Clay as Tobias from Arrested Development painting himself like a member of Blue Man Group.

2) We should have an official DadLabs Movember team.

While not a good candidate for locks of love, I'm not sire I can completely duck movember. The DL november strategy is still in the planning stages -- there's a move afoot to try and combine a number of dadblogs together in a combo effort. Stan by for more on that. And we're trying to raise a little money for Team DadLabs. More details to follow.

Dadchelor Parties

Daddy Clay talks to Beth Feldman, Founder and President of RoleMommy.com about a few "dad trends." Dads are becoming more involved with everything from the very beginning, including doctors appointments and even baby showers. A Dadchelor party is a get together for new Dads that is essentially, diapers for beer. Guest bring diapers and beer is served while you watch movies or maybe the game. At a Dadchelor party, baby kegger, ok, strippers, not ok. (Trust us on this one.) Another great idea for new Dads is to take the Mom-to-be on a "Babymoon" where she gets pampered and can relax. Well, relax as much as one can when building a human. Episode 868
