TOPIC: Do you let your kids run around naked?

Do you let your kids run around naked?
2 Years, 10 Months ago
I read an interesting article in the NYTimes this week about how some parents handle the issue of kids and nakedness. We've always been pretty modest and I think we've passed that on to the kids. Which has me feeling a bit up tight. How about you? Letting the kids run around naked? If so, does it freak out friends and family?

I generally want the boy to have pants or a shirt... (Never completely naked, always a diaper at least)... If it's particularly hot, maybe no clothes... BUT that's with us only at home, in the house. If we go out in public, or someone is visiting, the boy is dressed, always. "Nekkid" at home, is ok. Out and about, absolutely not.

A tank top & shorts are kinda minimal for going out in public. Our little guy does romp around shirtless at home sometimes, but not often. Things get pretty lax when he's playing in his wading pool (like just wearing "swimmers" diapers) but otherwise, I guess we're fairly modest folks.

Plus, since we routinely get into blistering triple-digit days around here, I'm antsy about too much sun exposure, even with the fantastic sunblocks available for kids now.

Kids under 2, while at home can be naked in side and out, no problem. This will prepare them for fraternity parties in college. However due to inside potty accidents and outside mosquitos, nakedness has it's limitations

We're pretty modest in our house as well. Kids always have a bottom on (underpants at a minimum for the 5 year old, diaper for the baby). If there's anyone in the house beyond parents and grandparents, then pants or shorts are also required of the 5 year old. It's never been stated, but tops are optional I suppose.

I really wouldn't have an issue if either of them really wanted to be shirtless around the house at these ages.

As Daddy, I hold the key to success. I control the thermostat. Generally, I'm very warm blooded, so I keep the AC cranking in the Summer and keep the heat down low in the Winter. Out of necessity, the children are always dressed.

Dadchelor Parties

Daddy Clay talks to Beth Feldman, Founder and President of RoleMommy.com about a few "dad trends." Dads are becoming more involved with everything from the very beginning, including doctors appointments and even baby showers. A Dadchelor party is a get together for new Dads that is essentially, diapers for beer. Guest bring diapers and beer is served while you watch movies or maybe the game. At a Dadchelor party, baby kegger, ok, strippers, not ok. (Trust us on this one.) Another great idea for new Dads is to take the Mom-to-be on a "Babymoon" where she gets pampered and can relax. Well, relax as much as one can when building a human. Episode 868
