C-Section
So two weeks to go and it looks like my little guy is now in a Frank-Breach position. The doc has schedule a c-section for 5/17, he’s still moving around but now my fear is of hip dysplasia. Out goes the birthing classes and ice chips and on go the scrubs. Anyone else with a similar experience? This is our first so everything is brand new and the anxiety level is pretty high

Hi cubic202,

Sounds like the birth of your son is approaching.

We had to have a C section as well. My main memory was that I wanted to stay with my wife, and not rush out to look at the baby as soon as he was delivered. My reasoning was that I could see my son soon enough, but in the moment, my wife needed me more than anyone else, and I wanted to stay by her side as long as possible. In hindsight I'm glad I made that decision.

I chose to stay on the "other" side of the screen (away from the operation) and my first memory of my son being born was hearing him cry. The memory of that sound will stay with me for my lifetime.

I made sure that my wife could hold our son a little bit before they sent her away for post-operation recovery, and that was a special moment. She doesn't remember it, as she was very tired (and very medicated) at the time, but the look on her face as she saw her child for the first time was another memory I will treasure forever.

Good luck and best wishes to you and your family.

Roger

My wife ended up with an emergency c-section. It happened after several weeks of bed rest so we sorta had a heads up. She was pretty out of it because of the drugs but she was able to see our baby and say hi. So definitely video it so she can watch later. The worst part for me was that I couldn't be in the OR until they prepped her for surgery. It seemed like forever. It all happened pretty fast once they got started though. I too stayed on the other side of the screen until my son was born. Although it's something I sorta regret not seeing the actual moment that he came into the world. If there's a next time, I think I'll at least peek. I think it would have taken some of the anxiety out of it.

Good luck!

Most pregnancies these days seem to end up in a C section. How they do is a whole another topic. My wife also tried to have a regular birth and ended up in a C. I think a planned C can save the pain and time of trying a regular.

The thing about C is that it is really quick and your in and out. Its the recovery part that takes long. You will have to do some heavy lifting after the baby is born. Your wife will be advice not to lift anything heavier than her baby. But just getting in an out of bed alone is hard so be ready help her out a lot. Good luck.

Many thanks guys!

I too plan on not viewing the actual operation but being right by my wife’s side. The count down is on ; I finished the nursery last night and now we’re just waiting the big day. Thanks again.

We were planning a natural childbirth with my oldest, but he would have none of it. He was born prematurely at 32 weeks via C-section.

He came so early that we hadn't even started childbirth classes! I was utterly clueless and very scared. Nothing was going to plan. But it all worked out all right. He's now a giant 7th grader and all that trauma is a distant memory.

I think it's good that you have some time to learn and get ready for the C-section.

I would pick up on Daddy Roger's point that the recovery is longer than you think with a C-section. She is really going to be out for a while. Prepare for that. And C-sections can make breast feeding a little more complex. Encourage your wife to hang in there.

Good luck!

Dadchelor Parties

Daddy Clay talks to Beth Feldman, Founder and President of RoleMommy.com about a few "dad trends." Dads are becoming more involved with everything from the very beginning, including doctors appointments and even baby showers. A Dadchelor party is a get together for new Dads that is essentially, diapers for beer. Guest bring diapers and beer is served while you watch movies or maybe the game. At a Dadchelor party, baby kegger, ok, strippers, not ok. (Trust us on this one.) Another great idea for new Dads is to take the Mom-to-be on a "Babymoon" where she gets pampered and can relax. Well, relax as much as one can when building a human. Episode 868
