TOPIC: Babysitter troubles

Babysitter troubles
9 Months, 3 Weeks ago
I have a babysitter who comes over every week to give me time to do chores and if possible, relax a bit. I found her through the local university's infant cognition lab. Today though, I had a major problem. She took our daughter upstairs to change her diaper. She came out of the room a moment later to get my help with it (it was on backwards!). The trouble came when she left my daughter on the changing pad unattended. She was told the first time around to not leave her there if she is not in arm's length of our daughter. Luckily, my daughter is fine. What would you do in this case?

Find a new baby sitter. Leaving a child unattended on a changing table sounds scary. Putting it on backwards tells me she is not paying any attention to her job.

I agree. Find a different sitter without question.

There are certain mistakes babysitters (and parents) make that are understandable. As a father of a 2.5 year old, there are things that now seem obvious to me that I would have had no idea about when my first son was born.

But, there are other things that, even if you have no experience with babies, are just careless. Leaving a baby on an elevated counter, out of reach is evidence of someone who is just not thinking.

I think references from neighbors are the best avenue for finding good baby-sitters, but we had fantastic luck using Care.com (we've had the same nanny since our older son was 8-weeks old and are going to hate giving her up when she graduates).

Dadchelor Parties

Daddy Clay talks to Beth Feldman, Founder and President of RoleMommy.com about a few "dad trends." Dads are becoming more involved with everything from the very beginning, including doctors appointments and even baby showers. A Dadchelor party is a get together for new Dads that is essentially, diapers for beer. Guest bring diapers and beer is served while you watch movies or maybe the game. At a Dadchelor party, baby kegger, ok, strippers, not ok. (Trust us on this one.) Another great idea for new Dads is to take the Mom-to-be on a "Babymoon" where she gets pampered and can relax. Well, relax as much as one can when building a human. Episode 868
