Museum Day = Free Admission Sept 29
7 Months, 3 Weeks ago
You and 1 guest can get FREE admission to a participating museum THIS Saturday, September 29th.

TheBoy, HisMother, and I are going to hit the Rhythm Discovery Center in Indianapolis.

Find participating museums in your area and get your tickets here:

www.smithsonianmag.com/museumday/

"In the spirit of Smithsonian Museums, who offer free admission everyday, Museum Day Live! is an annual event hosted by Smithsonian magazine in which participating museums across the country open their doors to anyone presenting a Museum Day Ticket...for free."

Where are you going to go?

Please, come back here and share your experience. Tell us about your museum, what did your kid love? What did they hate?

Realized I have neglected my duties here a bit... 6 months have passed and I hadn't posted my report.

The Rhythm Discovery Center was a blast! Not terribly crowded, and not as loud as I expected. Though when one particular area for younger kids gets about 5 kids in it, it is a bit mind numbing. Most of the exhibits are far enough apart as to not make you want to scream KNOCK IT OFF!

Our favorite part was the sound proof rooms. You may have to wait a few minutes to get one, but they are small(8x8?) rooms with doors. You can go in and jam on whatever's in there as loud as you want without disturbing anyone, 'cept of course, those in the room with you. One had bongos and cymbals, the other had a full kit. TheBoy LOVED sitting behind the huge drum set. I've got a few great photos. Will dig 'em out and get 'em shared.

As for 'value' of your entertainment dollar. Unless you see a presentation, 2 hours is about the max you'll need there. Of course we got in free on our visit, but regular admission is as follows:
Adult...$9.00
Senior...$8.00
Student...$6.00 (with valid student ID)
Child...$6.00 (children 5 and under are FREE)
PAS Members...$6.00 (with valid PAS membership card - I don't know what PAS is.)
RDC Family Memberships are $60 and have additional benefits.

For us, I'd say it's worth at least one visit, especially if you have a kid into drummin'. If we lived IN Indianapolis(or at least a helluva lot closer), I do believe we'd have a membership. But 2 hours away, we're just not going to make the trip for that on a regular basis.
