I'm still confused why this is news. These things have been around since plastic molding technology was invented. I bought one at a Toledo Mudhens game in the mid 80's and they weren't new then. They've been annoying at baseball games. They've been annoying at football games. and they've been annoying at professional soccer games. They've been annoying from the beginning. But that's the point, aside from making plastic toy manufacturers a lot of money.

Give them an African name and they get front page, Sport Page anyway, coverage.

On TV, they're fine. In real life, I hate them with a passion. The constant droning is much more tolerable than an 8 year old interfering with your conversation during a match on an immaculate pitch. And I've seen most of each and every of the 62 matches played in the last 30 days. Gotta love Tivo. Watch EPL or Champions League matches and there's a drone there as well. It's just chanting and trumpets and drums. Not really all that different on television.
