Twins
9 Months, 1 Week ago
So...we are needing to get my wife some new wheels, we thought we would be OK with her 96 mustang convertible but now that we know about the whole twin thing...not so much

Any recommendations on a Twin Mobile

She has already Nixed the Mini-Van idea and would like a SUV

Why not a mini-van? There are some sweet rides out there, and HELLA more fuel efficient than most SUVs. And will actually hold more, and from what I see, much MUCH easier to get said twins and gear in and out of. That may not seem like a big deal at first, but it IS, I swear.

I myself am hooked on wagons, but they are rare today. (Everything is a crossover.) The "next ride" will be another older model Outback, or wagon of some sort, or a mini-van. Yes, I'ma DAD, and I just said (and meant) that I'd love to have a mini-van. Ownin' it.

I have a 2000 Honda Civic, that's our family wagon. We only have one child, so I can't relate directly to your situation, or provide an exact response. But the hardest thing about ferrying toddlers in a subcompact is the lack of headroom when you're getting them into and out of the carseat. I've got to hoist a 25+ pound kid, who is sometimes moving around quite a bit (if he's distracted or doesn't want to get into the car), while taking care not to bump either of our heads into the frame or headliner, while bent at the waist at a pretty significant angle. I'm in pretty decent shape but it's a lot of work. Honestly I'd love to have a car with a taller profile and more headroom. (Being that we are ultra-budgeters/minimalists, that's not going to happen any time soon...)

I just got my son out of the car when my wife came home from the store about a half hour ago. I eyeballed the degree of the bend at the waist while I got him out and my upper body was probably 10-15 degrees above horizontal. FWIW I'm 5'11 and the car has stock size tires (14 inch).

I bought the Civic brand new, before I was married or had kids... but you have an opportunity here... get something with some ground clearance!

I agree with both previous posts. I drive an Astro van, albeit slightly modified for our lifestyle.

Kid thing is a piece of cake with this van.

My wife drives a Nissan Murano. It's a performance based crossover, but it has a ton of leg room in the rear and decent headroom so loading and unloading kids is pretty simple. I don't have to wrench my back into vulnerable positions getting kiddos in and out.

I wish they would not have stopped making the Honda Civic 4wd Wagon. Roger, that's not what you have, is it? I've always wanted one.

Nah, mine is front wheel drive, subcompact, about the same size as the current Honda Fit. Wife and I have agreed that unless we have more than two kids, we'll keep using the Civic as our daily family driver.

Responsible budgeting is fun!

Roger, you need a new definition of fun.

We have multiple votes coming in for minivans, in response to the topic.
