To Pee or not to Pee? Pee!
3 Years, 9 Months ago
My daughter and her little friend from down the street have been in a potty training race this sumer. My daughter is the victor, she has it figured out. Her buddy (a little dude) is still whizzing every which way but loose. Now that he has lost the race, he also has lost the desire to master the fine art of toiletry.

Any tips out there for parents preparing boys to pee properly?

I find it hard to believe that it's harder to potty train boys. But that seems to be the consensus. It seems so simple to me, as a dude. Guess I'll find out, huh? *fingers crossed*

My wife's cousin had twins. The girl got it much earlier, so they resorted to last ditch efforts - and I was lucky not to fall victim. They live in Iowa and have no neighbors close by, so they taught boy-twin to pee off the deck. The fun thing was when he got distracted - looked around with his body instead of his head.

Yeah, the whole yard got watered during that time.

Patience, lot and lots of Patience.
I think I'll look into the peter potty... when the boys are done with it- I can hang it on the wall next to my bed for the midnight callings. Not sure the wife would be hap-pee about emptying it for me though.... Hmmm

I'm currently trying to potty train my 2 yr old daughter and I have a soon to be 1 yr old son. So pretty soon we will be potty training him as well. Why not teach the little man to potty sitting down? I can only imagine him whizzing all over the bathroom! Anyone tried potty training sitting down first?

Now I'm worried. We have a really small bathroom as it is. Are we going to need to get gadgets for our son to start target practice? He's only 3 months old right now, but it almost sounds like we should add a new room to the house completely padded and latexed. At least he's helping when it comes time for the diaper changes now. Maybe he'll get the toilet thing early too. A friend's autistic son pulled his pants down and whizzed on his dad while waiting in line at DQ a few years back. I sure hope things don't get that bad.

Cheerios. I've been told the key to potty training boys is Cheerios, throw them in the bowl, and tell the boy to sink the cheerios! This was a method that helped get me potty trained, and will be something that we probably try with our son when that time comes.

Has anyone else heard this as a way to go?

I am still firmly set in the diaper stage but teaching my little guy scares the poop out of me. I think we are going to have to make a game out of it. I envision some floating targets along with sound effects. Maybe a scoreboard?

I wonder if I can convince him that his penis is a controller and this is just a very realistic video game.

Maybe not...

I'm not sure how I feel about this. My daughter , who is now 4, was easy to potty train. My wife and I are expecting our second child, a boy, in December. Everyone tells us that it will be completely different. I guess we'll find out.

If you like the competitive aire, try some target practice! Boys always have had the advantage in that particular race.

Chris F

Dadchelor Parties

Daddy Clay talks to Beth Feldman, Founder and President of RoleMommy.com about a few "dad trends." Dads are becoming more involved with everything from the very beginning, including doctors appointments and even baby showers. A Dadchelor party is a get together for new Dads that is essentially, diapers for beer. Guest bring diapers and beer is served while you watch movies or maybe the game. At a Dadchelor party, baby kegger, ok, strippers, not ok. (Trust us on this one.) Another great idea for new Dads is to take the Mom-to-be on a "Babymoon" where she gets pampered and can relax. Well, relax as much as one can when building a human. Episode 868
