TOPIC: Off Road Strollers?

Off Road Strollers?
With time as tight as it is, I am looking for ways to combine spending time with the kids and exercise. My son is begging to master his off road biking skills and can ride on the trails behind our house and I enjoy following on foot. My daughter also likes to ride along in the stroller. Our stroller is a street jogger and the ride for her is a bit bumpy.

Any recommendations on the best off road stroller for semi bumpy trails?

Looks like you're already ahead of the game with the jogger. I figure anything with large inflatable bicycle wheels will do it. And I think some out there might even have suspension. I bought a low end jogger (Baby Trend Expedition) not for jogging, but for the offroad hiking trails, dirt roads, park grass, and beach where it works really well. Particularly the beach where the salt would not be friendly to the expensive high end parts of a much more expensive stroller. But the more expensive ones might have suspension.

The only other thing is the bicycle trailer/jogging stroller you can buy for a couple hundred bucks. That would be pretty cool because when your bicycle riding kid is old enough to pick up the speed, you can hook up the trailer to your own mountain bike and follow him around. Those trailers usually hold about 100 lbs worth of kid/stuff. And this cheap one from Costco has full suspension.

We bought the Expedition for days out at the farm. It was perfect for us to get through high grass and deep ruts. I think at some point this spring we'll be looking for an equivalent wagon. Maybe rigging up safety straps to one of these will serve our needs:
Garden Wagon

I'm thinking of buying a generic car seat for our garden wagon (exactly the one pictured) for shiggles. Probably pick one up at a thrift store. (I don't suggest a used car seat for your car though, unless you trust the person you're getting it from... never know if it's been in an accident or not... but for the wagon seat, I don't believe it will matter.) I see it as a vehicle of opportunity come Halloween... turning it into the appropriate vehicle for whatever the costume... landspeeder for StarWars, tool box for Handy Manny, firetruck, police car, what have you... Hey, it's for the boy!! Really. *nudge nudge wink wink*

We have a jogger with big wheels and I love it. I've never taken it off road at all, a lawn doesn't really count. I imagine it would still be bumpy. I had not seen a trailer with suspension before! And I've looked at ALOT of trailers... that one is pretty cool, and the price isn't bad. Though I don't like the small front wheel. The Schwinn MarkIII is my favorite, but it's pricey. I'm still hoping to build a custom trailer.

Probably wouldn't even need a car seat. The High Chair we got to attach to a dining room chair would strap in really well and it adjusts in height and even reclines. They go on sale at Target all the time for about $35. Since it has it's own straps and can convert between a 5 and 3 point harness, I think it would be about perfect. Need to find a used one.

The conversion from jogger to trailer is cool and I love Costco, except for the damn sample stations when I'm on a diet.

I always feel so violated after a round through the sample stations. Kirkland products lead me to temptation every time.

LOL. I love the Costco sample reference. I shop Sams and LOVE sample day. I was thinking that a bike trailer might be a good idea for you and your daughter? There is also this buyers guide for off road strollers,www.allreviews.com/baby-strollers/2010/0...rrain-baby-stroller/ might give some more insight. Good luck!

Year of the Dad

Episode 845 - Year of the Dad. What's trending in 2012? Dads! Laurie Gelman, co-host of The Mom Show talks about the shifting roles of primary care givers from Mom to Dad. There's also the scarier trend of reality TV/YouTube/internet fame influencing parenting. Parents need to be more aware of what children are watching. The American Academy of Pediatrics recommends no more than 2.5 hours of "screen time" which includes ALL screens, not just TV. One way to battle technology and hours and hours of texting, bad youtube videos, and generally bad programming is family dinner. Unplug and spend genuine quality time with your family.

eProofing Your Wireless Network

Daddy Clay points out the importance of setting up a secure wireless network. It's easy to with the software that comes with your router, and can be done via the "Network and Sharing Center" control panel on PCs, or the Airport Utility on Macs. Giving the access code out also can allow access to your personal files on devices on that network. Some routers like the Linksys e4200 offer Dual Zone, Guest Zone, or SSID features which allow you to set up access to the internet, but NOT your other devices on the network. Shutting down the network is a great way to limit family access and controlling time limits for your children, particularly during certain times like study time, family dinner, or even overnight.
