TOPIC: I'm sure even Sweden has limits

I'm sure even Sweden has limits
3 Years, 11 Months ago
My wife is on a preggo board and came across a link that we both found disturbing and bizarre. I'm not really sure where the family is, I think England, but the mother is still breastfeeding her 8 YR OLD!
Even in a country like Sweden where breast milk is highly revered, I would think they would wrinkle their brows at this one. I have a niece who just turned 8, and to think of here still being able to ask for a boob is very mind boggling.
This was something that I couldn't just let go and had to share. Have a look and see for yourself
After watching that, my impression of Sweden is a little different. Well, it really shouldn't be but oh well. There was something in that bit about how breastfed kids have higher I.Q.'s What about their mother? I don't think it's doing anything for hers....... Sh*t man that's just freaky...lol

Bri-

I think the bit about breastfeeding children longer gives them higher IQ is taking portions of the studies done out of context. From info about the studies I could find, the comment of the longer a child is breastfed meant within the first 1 to 2 years (in most cases within the first year). It definitely did not mean breastfeeding them for eight years!

See www.breastfeeding.com/all_about/all_about_iq.html

This is just creepy! I mean, I'm a mom who breastfed for over 7 months and I still think it's creepy! Man, I know a few women who have gone above the 2 year mark & even that seems totally bizarre to me.
How messed up is that kid going to be? Sorry, but there IS a limit.
Once my son started serious teething, we were done! I could not imagine him walking over & asking me to have a drink. Yikes!

I'm not going to watch that. I'm trying not to watch that. I'm definitely not going to watch that. My wife breast fed our kids to about 14 months, so I'm kind of a lactivist. Most studies talk about the first 4,8,and 12 months of life and the benefit is clear -- and it's hard enough to get folks on board for that. I wouldn't feel comfortable with my own kids much past 18 mos, but I'm not sure breastfeeding your kids past that does any harm. Unless it winds up on YouTube.

Dadchelor Parties

Daddy Clay talks to Beth Feldman, Founder and President of RoleMommy.com about a few "dad trends." Dads are becoming more involved with everything from the very beginning, including doctors appointments and even baby showers. A Dadchelor party is a get together for new Dads that is essentially, diapers for beer. Guest bring diapers and beer is served while you watch movies or maybe the game. At a Dadchelor party, baby kegger, ok, strippers, not ok. (Trust us on this one.) Another great idea for new Dads is to take the Mom-to-be on a "Babymoon" where she gets pampered and can relax. Well, relax as much as one can when building a human. Episode 868
