trying to get my newborn sleep at night time
1 Year, 8 Months ago
me and my girlfriend are new to the baby experience. we have a 2 week old infant and can't seem to get him to sleep when we want to go to bed at night. he has 2(sometimes 3) feedings per night. we have a really hard time keeping him up during the day so it kicks us in the butt when we are trying to get sleep at night. can someone please help us because we dont know what to do. thanks

Sorry man, I don't have news you're gonna like...

That's just the way it is for at least a couple of months.

So the best advice I have is to sleep when he sleeps. Don't try "to get things done" while he's out, unless you've really had enough sleep. You're best chance to sleep is when he's snoozin'... so join him!

Good luck! And CONGRATULATIONS!!

Baby's on his/her own schedule and trying to force it will only make everyone more cranky.

Also, stop trying to keep him up during the day.
A baby that old should be taking 2 or 3 naps during the day.... and believe it or not that will help with the overnight sleeping. Sleep begets sleep.

I don't think it was till about 6 months the our boy got down to a once a night feeding, maybe 9 months for sleeping through.

Now at 15 months, he's probably still 50/50 on sleeping all night vs. wake up and a bottle.
Eating well before bed is a big help too, but that's for the older babies too.

Good luck and take solace in knowing that things are as they should be and they won't be that way forever.

Dadchelor Parties

Daddy Clay talks to Beth Feldman, Founder and President of RoleMommy.com about a few "dad trends." Dads are becoming more involved with everything from the very beginning, including doctors appointments and even baby showers. A Dadchelor party is a get together for new Dads that is essentially, diapers for beer. Guest bring diapers and beer is served while you watch movies or maybe the game. At a Dadchelor party, baby kegger, ok, strippers, not ok. (Trust us on this one.) Another great idea for new Dads is to take the Mom-to-be on a "Babymoon" where she gets pampered and can relax. Well, relax as much as one can when building a human. Episode 868
