Just a heads up...

I may end up in Labor and Delivery today if these cramps keep up. I'll keep you guys posted if I do.

Thanks. I'm still trying to decide if I'm going in tonight. Tim was going to leave for Austin around six to get some things from the house and get his birth certificate but I asked him to wait until tomorrow to see how I'm feeling.

The worst that happens is they send you home.

(At least that's what you're supposed to think)

Take it easy and you'll be fine.

How far along are you?

Just about 35 weeks. I'm staying down and resting. I just sent Tim to the store to get some comfort food (Oatmeal Cream pies, get in my tummy!), and I'm going to have him play some Bioshock when he gets home since watching him play video games is one of my favorite past times (not being sarcastic, I really do like watching him play).

I went in last night around 10. I was having mild contractions off and on since Saturday, I just wasn't totally aware that's what was going on. They got to about ten minutes apart once I went into L&D but they put me on IV fluids. Yuck. I hate IVs. But at least they kept the kiddo in there. My blood pressure was also on the high side so they are checking me for preeclampsia. Gotta do the whole pee bucket thing again. Finally got home around 4:30 this morning. I've had a couple more today, so my mom put me to bed and has been forcing water on me. I don't ever drink enough water. And of course since I have been put to bed, the nesting is kicking in. I just hope we make it to April :\

Oh and of course this all has to happen while Tim is Austin. I get to hear him telling me about what a blast he is having with our friends, playing discgolf and staying up all night catching up. I don't want to sound bitter, I'm really, really glad he gets this time with guys before the baby is here, I just wish I could've gone too.

So you're still at 0-0 (dilation, effacement) then?

I remember the last scheduled appointment before Duncan was born. The doctor filling in for ours while she was hospitalized with kidney stones during her own pregnancy told us that she'd be "in labor" for several days, maybe two weeks, and that he didn't think we'd make it to the next appointment. That was at 2 and 20. Took four more days to get to 10 & 100%.

I know I am 1 cm. dilated, but I'm not sure about the effacement. At first I thought she said 20, but then she told my mother I was 0 effaced. When she checked right before they released me she said there was no change at all. So whichever it was, it was still the same even after the contractions I was having while I was there.

Nothing yet. It fells like he is getting really low now, and belly looks like it, too. I've still been having a few contractions today, not very strong though. I'm really getting the feeling that we wont make it to April now. As long as we make it through the weekend. I don't have the crib from my grandmother yet and I still need to wash baby clothes. Plus Tim is still in Austin. Mom is taking great care of me, though. I take my pee bucket in tomorrow and will set up an appointment to be seen on Monday. I'll have more news then.

On a lighter note, I found out my aunt is having another baby boy this year Her due date is sep. 16th, ten days before my birthday. My first child and a new cousin in one year. Yay!

Edit: Was just hanging out with some girlfriends next door and had another contraction. This one was strong enough to cause some considerable back pain. And my blood pressure is high again, but that may be from the episode of 16 and Pregnant we watched. Or from the pain. I'll check again in a bit.

FINALLY got in to see the doctor today. Even after being red flagged while in L&D two weeks ago, they couldn't see me until my original appointment for the 29th. Stupid county hospital.
Anyway. Preeclampsia came up a negative. Well, pretty much. They did say I had a trace of protein, but not enough for them to be overly concerned. Blood pressure is still on the very high end of normal, so they want me to keep up with monitoring it at home. Jack's heart rate sounded perfect. They're setting up a 3D ultrasound for sometime next week, so I'll finally get to see what the kiddo looks like! I'd bet almost anything that he looks like just his daddy.
I am two more centimeters dilated from two weeks ago, and for some reason this had them wanting me in L&D to be monitored even though I was having no contractions and felt absolutely fine. After waiting an hour and a half to be walked over from the clinic (which takes two minutes at the most) and waiting another hour for a bed that never opened up, I talked them into letting me go home as long as I promised to come back if I had any signs of labor. I'm having none whatsoever, and as a matter of fact, I'm feeling the best I have in two weeks.
I've also talked Tim into coming home in time for the ultrasound. No word from Apple or the other places that he applied to, so I'm just ready for him to be home. Austin can wait, in my opinion (this coming from a born and raised Austinite). I just want my family together.
I also have to say real quick, I have one of the most awesome moms ever! Even though she is disabled and has a painful kidney disease, she went with me and stayed there with me the whole seven hours so I didn't have to go through dealing with that place on my own. Love ya, Mommy!

See, this parenting thing never ends.

So nice that your mom is there. Now, reel dad back in and get ready for the big day.

So it turns out being in Austin really was a good idea. Tim got the job with Apple! He starts training April 9th. The only issue is he may miss Jack's birth, since the training class last three weeks (that is if he hasn't made his appearance by the 9th). It's gonna be hard having Tim in a different city for the first few months of Kiddo's life, but he's doing what he has to so we can raise our family in the city we always planed to. And as hard as it's going to be on me, it's going to be so much harder for him to not be here.

Also by this time next week I may no longer be AbbyLyn, but AbbyFin

Year of the Dad

Episode 845 - Year of the Dad. What's trending in 2012? Dads! Laurie Gelman, co-host of The Mom Show talks about the shifting roles of primary care givers from Mom to Dad. There's also the scarier trend of reality TV/YouTube/internet fame influencing parenting. Parents need to be more aware of what children are watching. The American Academy of Pediatrics recommends no more than 2.5 hours of "screen time" which includes ALL screens, not just TV. One way to battle technology and hours and hours of texting, bad youtube videos, and generally bad programming is family dinner. Unplug and spend genuine quality time with your family.

eProofing Your Wireless Network

Daddy Clay points out the importance of setting up a secure wireless network. It's easy to with the software that comes with your router, and can be done via the "Network and Sharing Center" control panel on PCs, or the Airport Utility on Macs. Giving the access code out also can allow access to your personal files on devices on that network. Some routers like the Linksys e4200 offer Dual Zone, Guest Zone, or SSID features which allow you to set up access to the internet, but NOT your other devices on the network. Shutting down the network is a great way to limit family access and controlling time limits for your children, particularly during certain times like study time, family dinner, or even overnight.
