What did you get your wife for her first Mother's Day? Or what other ideas do you have.

The obvious ideas:

• Breakfast in bed (or not in bed, but I make breakfast)

• Jewelry

• Flowers

Day at the spa/day to herself.
art from kid. get a canvas and some finger paint. let kiddo go nuts or if too young you can guide them.

Now, I am notorious for my BAD gift ideas, but we have done significant (non-scientific) polling on this, and a hand-written letter comes at or near the top.

That's what they SAY they want, but I still want to second dougj's spa idea. Always a winner.

Snapfish has some great gifts any mother would love because they'll print pictures on just about anything. Last year, I bought my wife a canvas picture poster with about a dozen pictures in a collage, and she loves it.

I just had this idea this morning at about 10:30PCT and got it done with the help of one of my wife's girlfriends.

Luckily, my wife has our photots of Little O in computer files by month and she's only 5 months old.

We burned about 10 pics onto a CD, roughly two from month 1, two from month 2 and so on (pics that are good but probably won't be framed by themsleves) and took it to Kinkos.

I ended up with a 8 x 11 Custom mother's day card with the collage on the front, openning to a picture of the three of us above a small text I wrote as if it was Little O speaking to mommy, followed of course with bigger font saying Happy First Mother's Day.

It was the best $25 i've ever spent.

I had him leave a space under the "Happy Mother's Day" large enough for Little O's hand print. Tomorrow I will write "Love Always (any better suggestions?), Olivia Lara" followed by her handprint.

For the text, I first picked out a photo and then wrote a caption for it. I then put them together to form the text paragraph. If you are looking at this thread, then you may have an emergency so you are welcome to use my text or any variation you want.

I was in a hurry so I kinda winged it and could have ended it better soemhow but, whatever. She'll love it a lot more than a generic Hallmark card and I know she will keep it forever.

(Among other's the collage contains the greatest picture of her dad sitting on the couch with a 1 month old Little O sleeping curled up on his chest.)

I left the inside of the front cover page untouched so she can add her favorite pic if she wants too.

I had one of her girlfriends help me with it, and her eyes teared up at the finished product.


Happy Mother's Day everybody.

What gifts should I pick for my mom on the coming Mother’s Day? I thought for a long time from necklace to cooking books, but it seems all of those are not so special. Then suddenly one idea occurred to me: why I don’t spend a time enjoying Disney cartoons with mom? My mom is a super fan for Disney cartoons.Mom has a Blu-ray/DVD player connected to a 40 inch widescreen HDTV. She watches her movies directly from the discs via the player and TV. Mom told me many of her favorite discs have had heavy scratches after long time repeatedly insert and eject the discs, which makes her quite heart-breaking.

To settle mom’s problem I decide to bring her also some material gifts: a BD/DVD backup software called Pavtube Blu-ray Ripper and two hardwares WD hard drive and WDTV media player. I have been using these three products for quite a long time as my media solutions. Pavtube Blu-ray Ripper can convert BD or DVD flawlessly to digital movie copies which then can be stored on my WD hard drive. I connect then the WD drive to WDTV media player connected to my TV. Bingo! You don’t have to bother with so many discs and be afraid of the scratches anymore. All your movie collections now are at hand in the little hard drive.

I think Mom shall be more happy if she knows I can also rescue her favorite Disney discs.

My wife isn't due until 9/24 with our 1st, so technically I doubt her eligibility to receive Mother's Day gifts until then; however, I've been married long enough to know that I should overlook this technicality and buy some stuff.

I nailed it! I got two books: First Meals, and a baby book (some assembly required) called Guess How Much I Love you. I also got a little statue of a man/expecting woman in a loving embrace from the Hallmark store. She was blown away, though I worry I may have set the bar a little too high for next time...

I too got it right. It drew out major tears from my wife as well as all the females of the family that were in the room at the time.

I think it will become "the" Mother's Day gift from here on out: A collage of photos from the year with the years highlights documented inside the card.

The hand print was done with chocolate syrup; ink on the hand would have left obvious incriminating evidence and I would have never gotten away with suprising her.

I wasn't sure about what to get my wife either but then a friend of mine recommended this website called BlueChopSticks . com to me, where they have these really awesome gift baskets.

I bought her a Spa Gift Basket and she loved it, so much that she was actually teary-eyed ! I nailed it and it felt so good to know that she loved it !

I just wanted to share this with you guys :)

Last year we went to this art show and saw these amazing handmade wooden jewelry boxes; my wife just flipped out over them. As a guy, I had to agree - the craftsmanship was simply stunning; made of incredible woods, but functional too.

When my wife was in the restroom I ran back and got the artist's card, and then ordered a box from him later so my wife had no clue. I ordered a box that could hold some of her jewelry on one level of sliding drawers, but could also hold keepsakes from our early years with our newborn as well. Someday, we can store drawings from our little one in the box as well. I demonstrated this by doing a child-like drawing myself of what I think our daughter will draw in the future. Needless to say, my wife couldn't stop crying, which is (usually) a sign of success!

Anyway, I highly recommend this guy's work. He's an independent artist and in these times, it felt good to know that not only was I getting something I already knew my wife loved, but that I also was supporting a struggling artist with 100% handmade, American-made products. We get compliments all the time on our box, which is so beautiful we keep it out in the living room for everyone to see.

@jaimashi The best part is the botched drawing that made her bawl. That is the genius. And a good principle -- in the middle of any gift, there should be something kind of half-ass and handmade, from you.

I know some plane pushers -- and they can use all the help they can get.

Last year my wife's first Mothers day she had Chicken Pox and baby didn't. And she was forced to stay physically away from our baby. So I really got to make it up this year. The SPA idea sounds good. Maybe also work on a art project like hand and foot paint prints
