Birth Announcements
2 Years, 6 Months ago
I'm not sure if there is already a thread like this on here but thought it might be kinda cool to have one place to post birth announcements.

My son was born last night around 9pm via c-section. My wife developed preeclampsia and it was no longer safe to carry the baby. We had some warning and he made it to 35 weeks so he is doing well considering. He'll just have to be in the NICU to stay warm for awhile.

His name is Owen and he was born 4lbs 10oz and he is 16.5 inches long!

Great news! Glad it went well.

I sure hope Daddy Owen's head doesn't get any bigger from hearing that you named him Owen. They have to adjust the camera during DL Live enough as it is.

I'm about a week late, but Aniela (pronounced Ann-yell-a) Grace arrived on 10/29 at 11:21 AM via home waterbirth. She is our second child. She weighed in at 6 lbs, 2 oz and was 19 1/2 inches long. That's her in my avatar.

First off, if any of this post makes absolutely no sense, I'm really sorry. I don't think any three days have lasted any longer before in my life. I'm going on hardly any sleep.

So early Wednesday morning some of you might have seen my update saying that I thought my water had broken. Well after a pretty nerve wrecking drive up to the hospital (even though it was 2:45 in the morning and there was no one else on the road), found out sure enough it had! Meanwhile Tim was still in Austin working on job stuff. He was going to be home Tuesday night, but because of terrible Austin traffic they didn't make it to the bus station. I told him it was okay, it wasn't like I was going to be having Jack that night..... Right. I called him right after I woke up and told him that he needed to get on the next bus for Houston because it turns out our son is already not listening to me.
I had the most amazing labor. I know that may sound weird, but actually looking back I was in very little pain, considering I was about to have a baby! Because of all the dilating I had already been doing for the past few weeks I was able to get my epidural almost as soon as they put me in my room. I got the epi sometime around 7 in the morning, but by 11 I thought it was starting to wear off. The contractions were getting so bad I could hardly think. I told the nurse that it was wearing off and was really scared that I had gotten it too early and would be feeling every little pain from that point on. Turns out that the way an epidural works is it spreads out from where they inject it. And instead of weight, it goes by height when deciding on how much to give. For some reason they only gave me enough for someone who is 5'5" when I am 5'7". Made sense to me since my right thigh was COMPLETELY numb, but I could still feel the contractions. They upped the juice and in about fifteens minutes I was doing soooo much better. But unfortunately for Tim he got to the room just when the contractions were at their worst. So instead of being so happy that he had made it in time and so thankful to him for going on no sleep just to make sure that he would be there for me, all I could do was moan and tell him not to touch me.
So sometime between twelve and one I started to get the feeling that I had take a really big poo really bad. Sorry if it sounds gross but there is really no other way to describe how it feels. I felt like I HAD to push. So they called in the doctor to check me and I was compete! After a total of an hour to an hour and a half of pushing, I saw what was the most amazing and most beautiful thing I had ever seen my entire life, the moment that Jack enter this world. I didn't get to hold him right after he came out because I had a tear they had to stitch up. Tim was kinda weired out by the idea of cutting the cord so my mother got to. She and Tim got to go back with Jack to the nursery and watch them clean him up and wrap him and put a hat on him while I was getting worked on. I finally got to hold him around three o clock (the longest fifteen minutes of my life, lol).

We were supposed to be home Friday but unfortunately due to a high bilirubin count (jaundice) he was taken to the level II nursery to start phototherapy. He was taken off the lights today and should be coming home tomorrow or Monday. The reason I haven't been able to call anyone and share the awesome news is because I'm trying to exclusively breastfeed, so I am having to stay with him at the hospital (even tough I was discharged yesterday) and feed him ever two hours. I think I've had maybe eight hours of sleep in the past three days. I feel like I'm about to pass out right now, lol. The hospital we're at has a really nice suite for mothers who are breastfeeding their little ones who can't come home yet. I told the nurse to go ahead and give him a bottle for the next two feedings so I could get to the house and do a few things before Jack comes home. Things like sleep. Which I think I'll do now. I'll keep you guys posted with more info when I can.

So cool, Congrats AbbyLyn! Glad to hear that Tim was able to make it. That's too bad that Jack didn't get to go home as soon as you'd hoped though. My little guy had pretty bad jaundice too and looked a lot like George Hamilton for awhile. He wound up with two rounds of photo therapy then all was fine so I'm sure Jacks bili levels will normalize soon. The best advice I could give you right now is to take advantage of the nurses and their help while he's there. Try and get at least one good nights rest before he comes home. He's a pretty cute kid! How big was he?

Thanks! He is 6 lbs, 6 oz and 19 1/4 inches. He may get to come home today. I can't wait! I'm about to head back up to the hospital right now. I can't wait to smell him again, lol. Sounds weird but I love his baby smell!

Oh and Tim has been quoting the DadLabs book to me all the time the past three days. It's really cute that he is soo into all this. He's such an awesome daddy.

Thanks, Clay. It was the most amazing experience I've ever had. We're home now finally. Its so good to be in my own bed. I'm so tired. And now that its night and I want to sleep, Jack is awake. Thank god daddy has slept most of the day.

Wow! Congratulations AbbyLyn - and belated congrats to all the fellas. What a wise little face he has AbbyLyn, he's just beautiful. I'm so happy that everything went well for you. I also hate you just the tiniest little bit ( joking of course). I'm 40 weeks and two days and can't wait until I can come back here and post my own news. Or, as my husband hears every time I see someone with a newborn "How come SHE gets her baby already and I don't?" (mature, I know) Best of luck with everything!

Dadchelor Parties

Daddy Clay talks to Beth Feldman, Founder and President of RoleMommy.com about a few "dad trends." Dads are becoming more involved with everything from the very beginning, including doctors appointments and even baby showers. A Dadchelor party is a get together for new Dads that is essentially, diapers for beer. Guest bring diapers and beer is served while you watch movies or maybe the game. At a Dadchelor party, baby kegger, ok, strippers, not ok. (Trust us on this one.) Another great idea for new Dads is to take the Mom-to-be on a "Babymoon" where she gets pampered and can relax. Well, relax as much as one can when building a human. Episode 868
