Stroller Confusion
3 Years, 7 Months ago
I'm totally confused by the high end stroller options out there today. Any thoughts on Bugaboo vs Mutsy (reviewed on DadLabs) vs Orbit? Other suggestions are welcome.

Welcome to the Crib Nat.<br><br>I look forward to hearing what the dadlabs network thinks of Mutsy vs Bugaboo vs Orbit.<br><br>And if not, then what kind of strollers are people buying and how would you rate the one you bought (or got for free from a shower!)

Just spoke to a local Mutsy dealer and they tell me that the 4Rider weighs 30 lbs all in and that weight is major reason they stroller has not sold well. She literally put me on hold and took the stroller a scale and weighed it. The Mutsy web site says the vehicle weighs 23.2 lbs. Any comments on weight being an issue here?

The Mutsy is cool, but it's big. It takes a while to get used to the hinged in the middle design. If you are going into a lot of tight spaces it might be hard to manage -- but I loved the infant bed attachment. It will definitely get you the most attention. The Bugaboo is a little more maneuverable, and more mainstream, so it might have better resale (such things matter at that price). If you are a jogger/outdoor type, I'd go with a BOB. And if you are going to put on low miles, just about anything at the big box will work. If you really want to geek out on strollers, you can read Daddy Types. Click on the strollers tag on the right and settle in.

I went with the BOB Revolution, because we both like to jog. Weighs in at 23 lbs according to the website, but I haven't actually weighed it to confirm. The BOB's aren't cheap though, but it works well. We just bought the infant seat adaptor and our Graco seat fits in quite nice and easily.<br><br>My biggest complaint with the BOB so far is simply figuring out how to carry it when it's folded up properly... it keeps wanting to unfold on me.

We went the much cheaper route. A Baby Trend stroller that holds a car seat. The car seat(also Baby Trend) was a bit heavier than others, but it will only be used for the first 8-12 months anyway(and that's proving to go by VERY fast). I like it because it came with a base, but does not require the base to be secured in the car. It's relatively easy to buckle the kid in as well. And the stroller folds up enough to fit in the small car...<br><br>Now I did just buy a used jogger from eBay(I don't jog). It doesn't fold up very small, and it's a bit heavy if you had to carry it... but I LOVE IT! It pushes SOOO easy. Anywhere I'll be doing alot of walking, I'll be taking the jogger instead.

We're still expecting so I can only offer what i know through my little brother.<br><br>Joggers are worth the weight unless space is a huge issue.<br><br>and check Ebay or the Resale shop before you go out spending hundreds of dollars on a stroller that may only be for one kid.<br><br>and i like inflatable tires personally. It's just a smoother run.

My in-laws are getting us the Orbit Baby System. My wife had played around with it and she loves it. She likes the fact that we can remove the entire baby seat and put it on the stroller base, and therefore not have to wake the baby up when he's asleep. Also, it's the ONLY stroller on the market that grows with the baby. They now have the toddler car seat, which is compatible with the stroller base as well, so no need to get a toddler seat AND a new stroller. I like the fact that it has so many different aspects, like the rocking base and different add ons. Plus it has a rainguard, a bugshield ... just so many things. My wife doesn't know, but my mom got the baby the bassinet to go with it and the rocking base. My hospital co-workers threw us a surprise shower a few weeks ago and got us the toddler car seat. With her parents getting us the actual starter set - the infant seat, car seat base, and stroller base, we will have the entire set. She's going to be so excited at our baby shower.<br><br>Oh, and one more thing. What I like about the Orbit is the fact that we can face the baby in any direction; he won't have to just look at our faces. He can face the side as well as to the front, in either seat. The side facing will come in handy when he can eat solid foods and we're out and about.

I know you all are mainly focusing on the BOB, which is awesome looking I might add, but have you thought about this one? www.allreviews.com/baby-strollers/2009/1...a-jogging-stroller/. As someone who is tall, I love that it has an adjustable handle.

UPPAbaby are definitely cool, and one of our favorites at the most recent ABC kids show was this from TFK.

Year of the Dad

Episode 845 - Year of the Dad. What's trending in 2012? Dads! Laurie Gelman, co-host of The Mom Show talks about the shifting roles of primary care givers from Mom to Dad. There's also the scarier trend of reality TV/YouTube/internet fame influencing parenting. Parents need to be more aware of what children are watching. The American Academy of Pediatrics recommends no more than 2.5 hours of "screen time" which includes ALL screens, not just TV. One way to battle technology and hours and hours of texting, bad youtube videos, and generally bad programming is family dinner. Unplug and spend genuine quality time with your family.

eProofing Your Wireless Network

Daddy Clay points out the importance of setting up a secure wireless network. It's easy to with the software that comes with your router, and can be done via the "Network and Sharing Center" control panel on PCs, or the Airport Utility on Macs. Giving the access code out also can allow access to your personal files on devices on that network. Some routers like the Linksys e4200 offer Dual Zone, Guest Zone, or SSID features which allow you to set up access to the internet, but NOT your other devices on the network. Shutting down the network is a great way to limit family access and controlling time limits for your children, particularly during certain times like study time, family dinner, or even overnight.
