TOPIC: When Do You Buy the Shotgun?

When Do You Buy the Shotgun?
1 Year, 11 Months ago
Fellow dads at work joke about putting potential suitors through the ringer - my daughter is almost 16mnths now, so I certainly have time...but how do you prep for some young stud knocking on your door looking to take your baby girl out?

Do they still knock on the door or will they be "going to the mall with Madison" - only to hook up with said potential suitor.

I guess it all goes back to the foundations of your relationship with your daughter and building a unified trust, respect and understanding for each other.

That said, anyone know a good place to get a shotgun? I kid...

My son walked into a room at church on Wednesday and planted a big sloppy one on the lips of a girl six months older than him. Then he walked away from her to go play with trucks. He's not yet 2. I hope her parents quickly become pacifists!

I've had people talk about my daughter and her dating to the point that I've had to ask them to shut up about it. She's 8. I think that is a bad sign. Both that it generates so much interest and that I'm already so thin skinned about it.

I just purchased a subdermal geolocating chip for my daughter. Once she is of dating age she will have no memory of it being installed.

And since this is not too far from being possible, I must tell you that I am joking.

And worried.

I wondered about this too when my daughter was born. However, now that she is three years old, I don't worry or wonder about it anymore.

Her aggressive, sassy, bossy personality has shone through. She already has one special little boyfriend in her school, and she mostly spends the day bossing him around and telling him what to do.

There's no way she'll be puttin' up with crap from boys!

It is NEVER too early to have a shotgun... or even some sort of devise that makes that unforgettable sound....

I have 5 daughters.

17, 16, 10, 6, & 2....

I have had the nerve racking job of chasing one guy off from my 17 (then 16) year old. She now sees the wisdom in what I did. He has since demonstrated his true character, and my daughter has thanked me. I do not look forward to having to do this again anytime soon, but a shotgun (or, again, the unmistakable sound) would be a welcome aid...

My husband often talks about needing a baseball bat for when our daughter turn the dating age (which personally to me is 30 )

Year of the Dad

Episode 845 - Year of the Dad. What's trending in 2012? Dads! Laurie Gelman, co-host of The Mom Show talks about the shifting roles of primary care givers from Mom to Dad. There's also the scarier trend of reality TV/YouTube/internet fame influencing parenting. Parents need to be more aware of what children are watching. The American Academy of Pediatrics recommends no more than 2.5 hours of "screen time" which includes ALL screens, not just TV. One way to battle technology and hours and hours of texting, bad youtube videos, and generally bad programming is family dinner. Unplug and spend genuine quality time with your family.

eProofing Your Wireless Network

Daddy Clay points out the importance of setting up a secure wireless network. It's easy to with the software that comes with your router, and can be done via the "Network and Sharing Center" control panel on PCs, or the Airport Utility on Macs. Giving the access code out also can allow access to your personal files on devices on that network. Some routers like the Linksys e4200 offer Dual Zone, Guest Zone, or SSID features which allow you to set up access to the internet, but NOT your other devices on the network. Shutting down the network is a great way to limit family access and controlling time limits for your children, particularly during certain times like study time, family dinner, or even overnight.
