TOPIC: Daddy Daughter Date - Sushi with a side of Bieber

Daddy Daughter Date - Sushi with a side of Bieber
1 Year, 5 Months ago
I can always tell when it has been too long since my last daddy daughter date, because my daughter will start to give hints like, "Daddy, it's been a couple of weeks since I've had Sushi" or "Daddy, what are you doing tomorrow?" All of these are great inklings to me that it has been a couple weeks since I have taken my daughter out for a little one on one.

My daughters favorite food is one of mine as well... Sushi. You would think that living in the high desert, 3 hours from any ocean, that the sushi around Reno would be poor to say the least. But, we live in a town that has whole air flights daily that brings in tons of seafood for the Casino industry. That makes fish much less expensive than in most areas of the country, and we have over 20 all you can eat sushi restaurants, all within a 15 mile drive.

Most of our dates recently have been based on taking an evening or a lunch and taking my daughter to a park and then sushi, or a movie and sushi, but recently I made my daughters day, by taking her to Sushi and then a Justin Bieber concert. We both enjoyed way too much sushi and then rushed to the concert. We had great seats in the VIP area, and she laughed, screamed and danced for hours.

Best thing of the evening, was just being with her.

Sounds like fun. Beats my date to KFC with my daughter . On the upside we both got a kick out of finding a Donnie Darko shaped chicken strip

That is so awesome that your daughter likes sushi. As a sushi lover myself, I can tell you how much I'd love it if my daughter would enjoy it too.

Along those lines, I am making it a higher priority to go on a lunch date with her, at school, more often this year. Probably once every two weeks. As a high school teacher I used to see one dad do this with his son. I used to think his son was cringing. Turns out they are a really tight family and serving as a great example to the rest of the school.

Year of the Dad

Episode 845 - Year of the Dad. What's trending in 2012? Dads! Laurie Gelman, co-host of The Mom Show talks about the shifting roles of primary care givers from Mom to Dad. There's also the scarier trend of reality TV/YouTube/internet fame influencing parenting. Parents need to be more aware of what children are watching. The American Academy of Pediatrics recommends no more than 2.5 hours of "screen time" which includes ALL screens, not just TV. One way to battle technology and hours and hours of texting, bad youtube videos, and generally bad programming is family dinner. Unplug and spend genuine quality time with your family.

eProofing Your Wireless Network

Daddy Clay points out the importance of setting up a secure wireless network. It's easy to with the software that comes with your router, and can be done via the "Network and Sharing Center" control panel on PCs, or the Airport Utility on Macs. Giving the access code out also can allow access to your personal files on devices on that network. Some routers like the Linksys e4200 offer Dual Zone, Guest Zone, or SSID features which allow you to set up access to the internet, but NOT your other devices on the network. Shutting down the network is a great way to limit family access and controlling time limits for your children, particularly during certain times like study time, family dinner, or even overnight.
