Hey guys, I am a new father and I understand all of the other topics and fears of issues to come. Right now I have a more easy request. My daughter is turning one this month and I've been racking my brain trying to think of a gift to give her. I really want to give something that will be meaningful later on. Growing up in a house full of testosterone means I don't have a lot of experience with this. Any help or ideas would be much appreciated. Thanks

I'll go a bit hippy on ya... do you have a yard? Could you plant a tree somewhere that's HER tree? Would be cool to play/climb as well as cool photo ops as they both grow.

I had an elaborate response for you well ahead of the cretin, but fatherhood got in the way.

Trees are certainly nice. I'd also suggest doing something special that would be fun now but also years down the road. I'm sure I thought about that with my boys and just never did.

I remember that the first two years may as well be one big birthday party. Toys come from all over and they don't really get much play use until well into the second year. So even the "old toys" get treated like new. the first birthday seems much more for the parents and pictures than the memory of the child. But that doesn't make in unimportant.

Congratulations on surviving the first year. That's a major accomplishment.

Thanks for the input. I would love to do a tree but we have no yard. I would also love to do something lasting but that's where the ideas stop. Thanks anyway. I'll keep trying to come up with something.
