Suddenly it’s parent celebration season again! Ladies first, of course. So, moms, please step forward and scoop up the thanks and goodies that you so richly deserve. A quick search of the DadLabs archives is enough to reveal that we have sadly, in our reckless efforts to serve dads, sorely underserved this holiday in the past.

Do athletes make the best dads? The stars appearing in the Journey to Comfort spots from Dove Men + Care provide appealing portraits of fatherhood, obviously comfortable in their own skin. While not many dads are sports stars, or were in a small town track team kind of way, lots of them are former athletes. And for most of these dads, sports had a formative influence on them. I have been a loving and affectionate father to my youngest son. In his eight years, I have read to him and tucked him in at night. I have driven him to sports events and cheered him on. I have helped to prepare his meals, wash his clothes and clean his room.
And yet nothing makes this child more gleeful than cleaning out my snot locker with a blind-sided throw-pillow roundhouse. The pained exhalation I produce when he drops a pointy elbow into my spleen makes him positively cackle. A new line of bathing suits for young girls introduced by model/actress Elizabeth Hurley has sparked a minor new media uproar and drawn criticism from a number of quarters. Critics have condemned the suits and the celebrity for contributing to the increased sexualization of girls in our culture. They site not only the suits themselves, but the “provocative” poses the girl models in the ads strike.
