Terrible Twos
By Daddy Brad Tuesday, December 13th, 2011
I got together with my good buddies from the Cast of Dads the other night to have our weekly (or semi-weekly) pod cast call. One of the topics that came up was my two year olds deteriorating behavior. He is turning into a wild man. Our conversation also deteriorated. It always amazes me how quickly grown men’s conversation can devolve into potty humor. It’s like we never left 3rd grade!

Cast of Dads

I got together via phone with my good buddies from the Cast of Dads the other night to discuss some modern day Fatherhood topics. We jawed about Movember, the Occupy Movement and Christmas gifts as well as how to talk to your kids about troubling news they hear on the radio. Somehow the conversation turned to the sophistication of snail mail junk mail. Have you seen those postcards lately?

Tune In, Turn On, Drop Out
By Daddy Brad Friday, April 23rd, 2010
My parents completely missed the Beatles and the Rolling Stones and it has bothered me my entire life as to how this occurred. Graduating from high school in 1959, they were the perfect age to latch on to the new Rock-n-Roll phenomenon sweeping the nation. Instead, they somehow got stuck in the mid 50’s and never moved beyond Fabian and The Letterman.
I think I now know why. They had kids.
While the rest of American youth were tuning in, turning on and dropping out, my sweet Momma and Daddy were changing diapers, soothing colic and struggling to make ends meet. By the time my sister and I were old enough to take care of ourselves times had changed (they missed Dylan too.) Disco was dying, REO Speedwagon was rocketing up the charts and Irene Cara was a sex Goddess. Things were just too weird for their “bobby sock” minds to comprehend so they decided to anchor their tastes in 1957.
As parents of three little ones, my wife and I work very hard not to get left behind by the times. I must admit it is a difficult task. Most of our non work time is spent wrangling young ones and not out on the town keeping up with the hottest new bands. Many topics of our conversations are also kid based, which is prevalent among families of young children. This drives our non breeder friends crazy. And while we still hang out with those kid free hipsters every once in awhile, the majority of our times is spent at home, living the family life. Which is fine by me because I really dig the Family Life.
This week’s Cast Of Dads Podcast is certainly one that can only be truly appreciated by parents. We lead with a conversation about potty training and nothing drives a non breeder crazier than when parents talk about poop. They just don’t get it!

Garage Sales
By Daddy Brad Thursday, April 8th, 2010
Twice a year our neighborhood association hosts a neighborhood wide garage sale. Folks display all of their unwanted crap on the drive way and then other folks from all over the city come and buy this crap and take it back to their homes. This is a perfect relationship. It seems my family is really adept at collecting crap, so getting rid of it and making a few dollars in the process is wonderful. Read the rest of this entry »
