Every once in a while the semi-literates here at DadLabs put down the remote and actually read a book or two. One of my all time favorites (I say “favorite” even though it really disturbed me) was Juliet Schor’s “Born to Buy.” It’s easy to wring your hands about the marketing media directed at children, we all are disposed to worry about it. Bringing some data to the discussion is what I really appreciate, and Schor’s work has that by the chapterful.
The trailer for “Consuming Kids” seems to fall back on a bit more alarmist stance, but it leaves me wanting to see the entire film. Should we host a screening here in Austin?
