FDA, BPA, Not Okay

Better late than never? Not quite a year after declaring the stuff safe, the FDA is now warning folks to cut down their exposure to the chemical Bisphenol-A (BPA). This is still a completely inadequate response when compared to what is being done in Canada or Europe.  In a reminder what kind of lameness the agency is capable of, the FDA is quick to point out that if there was really anything seriously harmful about BPA they would be doing something “regulatory” rather than just issuing a caution. Does anyone really believe this?

Given how compromised the FDA is by corporate influence, I think this warning should be heard as a howling klaxon of panic and desperation. Get this stuff out of your house now.  Be crazy about it.  Attack this substance with a Close Encounters kind of zeal.  Knock out the windows to get it out of the kitchen faster. Lots of things hold water without using BPA.

We’ve been saying this for a while, but the FDA reminds us again that parents have to be researching this stuff, talking to each other, and peeking behind the scenes.  If we wait for the government to take care of our kids, we’re asking to get hurt.
