Daddy Troy: Welcome back to Gear Daddy. I’m Daddy Troy and today I’m here with Haley of Picket Fences Maternity Boutique in Austin, Texas and she’s going to tell us how dads can go and buy maternity clothes for the expecting mom.

There comes a time in a woman’s pregnancy where none of her clothes start to fit. She wakes up in the morning, she tries them on, everything’s uncomfortable. This is a great time for you the expectant father to go out and buy a surprise maternity outfit.

Haley, tell us what a dad needs to know before he comes into the store to buy a maternity outfit for his expecting wife or partner.

Haley: You want to know what size she is pre-pregnancy because those sizes will transition into maternity sizes.

Daddy Troy: And you can help the dad make that conversion.

Haley: Yes, definitely.

Daddy Troy: And how does the dad figure out what size she is?

Haley: He can look in her closet or he can ask her friend. He’ll want to know what style she is. Is she more contemporary? Is she more traditional? Does she have more simple taste or more funky taste? He’ll want to know how far along she is in her pregnancy. He’ll also want to know what is he buying these close for. Is it for work? Is it for play? For a special event? We can certainly help with all of that and we love to do it.

Daddy Troy: Great, well, let’s go look at some of the work clothes options that you have here.

Haley: I always recommend these noppies first. They come in brown, khaki and black and the also come in different lengths. She can wear them throughout the whole pregnancy. They grow with her.

Daddy Troy: Could I also wear some of them with her?

Haley: Sure, when you just eat a really big dinner, yeah. And these are really good for both work and play. They can be casual or dressy. If you do a black pant those are really slenderizing. So these are just an all around good buy.

This is a great top for work. You’ve got a higher neckline so it’ll be conservative and appropriate for work but it’s also cute.

Daddy Troy: So let’s say as a dad I want to pull out all the stops. I want to get her something really hip or fun for my wife. What do I do?

Haley: Designer Jeans! We carry two kinds of designer jeans. We have the Citizens. They’re going to fit over the belly. They have a band on them. And we carry the Habituals. They don’t have a band so they’re going to sit under the belly and that’s a preference of the mom, which is really important. And they’re all one length so she’ll probably have to get them hemmed but that’s not a problem.

Daddy Troy: So Haley what would you recommend to the dad that’s feeling really overwhelmed by all this and wants to buy something simple but just really elegant.

Haley: I would recommend our Michael Star shirts. They all are solid colors. They come in different cuts so it’s a safe bet for a gift.
