Dad Rant 3

Daddy Brad about pops a blood vessel when we get him wound up about the state of the education and teaching system in the US. Watch him rant about teacher salaries. So if you see him, don't bring it up, unless you want to watch him erupt like this again. DadLabs ep. 61 The Lounge.

Daddy Brad: If you want to fix the education system in American, pay teachers more freakin’ money. If you make the teaching profession more financially appealing maybe, just maybe, a greater number of smart people will go into it. Think about it – sitting around all day, creating actuarial tables for big insurance companies like a hayride with a chick? No, but those who do make a lot of money. It’s not rocket science people. But teachers do train rock scientists. Smart people make better teachers. Now, there are a lot of smart teachers out there – God bless their souls – but they’re making a financial sacrifice to teach our kids. These are the same kids that will be taking care of our shriveled up old asses in 20 or 30 years. Look at where we set the bar. Average teacher salaries in lots of towns is about what we’re paying local bartenders – you know, when you add in tips. Nothing against bartenders. I love bartenders. But it takes a little more mental acuity to teach the fundamentals of the pythargy and theorem that it does to mix a good martini. And I love a good martini. If this is where we’re putting our priorities then lets just drop the kids off at the bar every morning instead of school. They’ll get to hang out with some interesting characters, eat free peanuts and learn the finer points of pool and snooker. Now all of these are import activities, but not as important as coming up with a new drug for Alzheimer’s or combating the Avian flu or taking care of the next e-coli spinach outbreak. Come on America, its all common sense. Dollars and cents.
