Would You Get a Vasectomy?

Should women keep the burden of birth control to themselves or should men go under the knife? In this weeks episode of PopSmack, Daddy Clay ask bloggers Jason Avant (dadcentric.com) and Nathan Thornburgh (dadwagon.com) the tough question, would you get a vasectomy? DadLabs EP 606.
Daddy Clay: Hey there, welcome to PopSmack. The show where daddies are popping off on the subject of the day. I'm joined by the guys from DadWagon and from DadCentric and the topic for today is vasectomy.
Daddy Clay: So guys welcome. I've got Nathan from DadWagon and Jason from DadCentric joining us on the show today. Guys thanks a lot for being here.
Nathan: You bet Clay.
Jason: Thanks for having us Clay.
Daddy Clay: So let's cut to the chase, let's get to the point, let's keep this cut short. So we're talking about vasectomy, and let's just start off by saying, I myself am still intact.
Jason: Vasdeferensly challenged I think is the PC term.
Daddy Clay: I was gonna say castrated. Is that not, that's not, they don't actually cut your balls totally off.
Jason: They don't cut your balls off. And I do believe that probably about 99.9% of American males are aware of this.
Daddy Clay: I guess the question of the day is - would you? Wouldn't you? Why or why not? And so Nathan let's start with you. What's your thinking on the subject, and will you or won't you?
Nathan: The more I think about it, it doesn't quite make sense for me. I have to say it seems like an extreme birth control method at a time when I'm not 18 anymore. Birth control just not the life or death issue that it used to be.
Daddy Clay: It just seems like that's using a bazooka to kill a fly.
Nathan: Vasectomy is a way or sort of bragging whether or not it's actually necessary. If you have a vasectomy clearly Jason, you are signaling to the world listen, we could get pregnant at any possible moment. I needed to do something drastic.
Daddy Clay: It's a little bit like bragging to say I gotta snip that vas deferens or I'm gonna be a Duggar for God's sakes.
Jason: You know birth control when you're married, let's face it, it's pretty one-sided. The wife at least in my household bears the burden of making sure that we didn't have kid number three. And having tried birth control pills and devices and things like that, the ladies do really bear the lions share. All we gotta do is a) put a raincoat on it or b) pull out and cross our fingers.
Daddy Clay: I'm gonna go ahead and say this, I know most men are probably afraid to admit this. I'm gonna go ahead and be brave here. I'm really thinking about my second wife. What if she wants kids? You know, anything can happen, I'm not saying we're having problems or anything but you know.
Nathan: Really, think about all the love children out there that you're avoiding if you actually could get this procedure done right?
Daddy Clay: I'm a long term planner. I got a long career ahead of me. Anything can happen. I'm totally kidding right now.
Nathan: The question for Jason, did you stash a little away just before the procedure, maybe send it to a freezer or something to start that beautiful new family somewhere else.
Jason: Well there's the stalactites that are hanging from my ceiling. No, I'm very realistic. I'm 40 years old. I don't want to burden my next wife with changing my baby's diapers as well as my own. So, two and out, I'm done.
Daddy Clay: Guys thanks a lot for coming in for PopSmack. This is our very first episode. We hope to do many of these, so let us know what you think. Any ideas or topic, you can send them to DadLabs.com, over at DadWagon, DadCentric. Let us know what you want to hear us popping off about here on PopSmack. We'll see you next time.

Why are women responsible for this?
written by Concretin Nik, March 03, 2010
Women are often left with the "burden" of birth control, because THEY ARE THE ONES WHO GIVE BIRTH! But I digress...

I just don't get it. I have been married for a grand total of 12 years, and had a fair amount of unmarried sex before and between wives... and I only have ONE kid, and that's only because we were TRYING to get pregnant. He was no 'accident.' My wife is not on the pill. TheBoy is 2 years old, and somehow, she's not pregnant... how can that be? My swimmers are clearly functioning properly.

It's not difficult. Condoms WORK. If you're breakin' 'em, you're buyin' the wrong ones, or you're leavin' 'em in your wallet too long(you shouldn't even put 'em there to begin with). Perhaps it's my 80s-90s childhood filled with safe sex campaigns, but condoms don't bother me in the slightest. I've never used them in fear of STDs... it's always been about NOT makin' babies.

Vasectomies are against my religion.

Hot Topic

This has been a hot topic in our household for a few months now. We just had number three and my wife does not want to go back on the pill. I personally hate condoms and my wife seems to get pregnant easily. I don't know but I'm considering the BIG SNIP SNIP. Although I have to admit it scares my balls off.

Bumming because my insurance does not cover it. Compared to other options, my guess is that in my case the math would not point to a vasectomy. But how to you place a monetary value on peace of mind?

I think I would have one done right now if I knew it was 100% reversible.

We decided that two kids was a good number for us. Weighed our options and decided since insurance would cover the vasectomy; it was the safest, cost effective way to go. So I have been sniped, didn't feel any threat to my manhood. Recovery was not bad, they gave me better drugs for the pain then what my wife got after her c-section. Oral surgery was worse than the vasectomy.
If for some reason we end up wanting more kids, there are enough people on this planet as it is, we can adopt.
I'm disappointed you couldn't find someone to weigh in on there experience of having a vasectomy.

I do not get it? I had one and it was the best thing!
written by Robert Goldstein, March 09, 2010
When my wife and I decided to stop having kids, getting a vAsectomy was really the only option. I do not get men who freak out about it. It was fast, painless and teh recovery was nothing.

My wife was soooo relieved too. I had no idea how much she worried about getting pregnant again. Now, we do not think about "protection." We have a great sex life and no worries.

I am a "fan."

You are darn right I'll get one.
We are having our third kid in Dec. and I'm going into the shop for the final racing modification of the boys.

I am in my mid forties right now and I will officially be a senior citizen when my third leaves home.

It's alot safer for us guys to have the vasectomy than for our wives to have a tubiligation done.

I've assisted Doctors with vasectomies during my career and its simple, safe and effective. The chance of complications is very low and the recovery time is about a week.
