CLAY Nothing beats the kids coming out to celebrate Christmas.
STEPHANIE Yeah I like singing santa baby you know and getting all sexed up over santa. So that’s my fun.
CLAY You got a Mrs. Clause out fit?
STEPHANIE Oh yea. We are joined to day by an acclaimed author and one of the best bloggers out there here in the studio Stephanie Klein. Stephanie welcome to dadlabs.
STEPHANIE Thank you, good to be here.
CLAY I got your books here, tell me about these guys. Well Moose a Memoir of Fat Camp is about when I got pregnant and the doctor told me to gain 50lbs and I told him if I gained 50lbs I would weight more than a Honda. He said “I don’t understand what’s the big deal?” I said it is a big deal because I grew up as the fat kid. My nick name was moose. Straight Up and Dirty is a very straight up and very dirty book about moving on after divorce when your young. And you got to look for love again and figure out what it is that makes you happy.
CLAY So the holidays are coming up.
STEPHANIE They are indeed. Clay Are you looking forward to the holidays?
STEPHANIE I really am. First of all, I love any excuse to drink a pretty cocktail. Or even a not so pretty cocktail.
CLAY So a cocktail is a good way to cope with the holidays.
STEPHANIE And the mother-in-law. I was thinking about the holidays and fathers and dads. And what I remember about the holidays about my dad wasn’t the gifts that he got, it was absolutely the rituals he created for us and the fun things we would do each year. He was responsible for making a big breakfast. Those are the memories that I look forward to every year. Food memories hence Moose a Memoir of Fat Camp.
CLAY How can dads really win some brownie points for the holidays. I think its coming up with really fun and silly things that kids will remember. Whether its going around the neighborhood figuring out which house is decorated the worse. Or its coming up with the tradition of movie night the night before. And getting the pop corn and the fun movies. Doing something like that.
CLAY Santa is one of the more fun parts. Nothing beats the kids coming out to find presents.
STPEHANIE Yea I like singing santa baby you know and getting all sexed up over santa. So that’s my fun.
CLAY You got a Mrs. Clause out fit?
STEPHANIE Oh yea. Guarder.
CLAY So you got daddio dressed up in the beard you know, good lord it’s the holidays is nothing sacred?
STEPHANIE No.
CLAY A couple of cocktails and you throw on a sexy Mrs. Clause outfit.
STEPHANIE (singing) Santa Baby.
CLAY Well that’s good there should be holiday traditions.
STEPHANIE Even If their appalling and you don’t want to remember them.
CLAY So, are you going to write about your kids, are you going to write about parent hood because both of your books are based your child hood and marriage at a young age.
STEPHANIE and one of the next books I’m writing is about the Girl Scouts and my experience with kids, so there’s that.
CLAY Do you feel like its different? Like you need to observe the privacy of your kids?
STEPHANIE Like in Moose I wrote about how I was wetting the bed till 5th or 6th grade and it’s a pretty mortifying story. Lets say one on my website StephanieKlein.com I would never write or talk about my kids problems with bed wetting, if they had those. I can tell all my embarrassing stories, if those embarrass them, fine. But I do think I have the obligation to preserve their privacy.
CLAY So when is the Girl Scout book coming out?
STEPHANIE Oh I’m just now starting to write it out. It will be a while. My first book, Straight Up and Dirty, is becoming a television show. So I’m working on that right now.
CLAY Can you say what network it will be on?
STEPHANIE Its going to be on ABC comedy. We really appreciate you coming in and hanging out here in dadlabs these are Stephanie’s books she is a very very funny person. Check out her blog its StephanieKlein.com. You can also get Straight Up and Dirty or Moose from Amazon.com or Barns and Noble. Check them out really funny stuff. That’s all for us here at dadlabs.
