Parents have many options available to them when it comes to baby carriers. How do you know which baby carrier is right for you? In this episode of The Lab, Daddy Clay and Daddy Brad reveal what to look for. Whether you have a newborn baby or an older child, there are transitions that determine which carrier to use. At what stages do babies move from an inward facing carrier to an outward facing one? Up to what weight can a carrier hold? Check out the answers to these questions and more in this video. We also share a clip from a seminar where a doctor clarifies concerns some parents have about the positioning of their baby in a carrier. DadLabs Ep. 738 is brought to you by BabyBjorn.
I tried a sling, a wrap, etc. I felt like a total idiot wearing them. Instead I opted to just carry my son in my arms. This seemed more natural and worked quite well, even for short hikes. It was 1/2 mile from the bus stop to my son's child care facility. I carried my son 3 times a week - boy sleeping in one arm, umbrella (it's Portland OR) in the other. Maybe switch arms half way?
As my son grew older (1 yr?) I transitioned to a stroller and a backpack for long hikes.
I think the moral of the story is: try going for a walk without one; and then try borrowing Mom's carrier and see what you like. You might just find that you don't need one at all.

We used an Ergo Baby Carrier, my husband found there was enough room to size up for him and down for me. One of the benefits he also found was that in the hip or back style carry, he was less likely to be kicked in the "married quarters" by a wayward baby foot!
