Daddy Clay brings you Richard Ash, Nissan's Marketing Manager to talk about the features of the Nissan Pathfinder Concept. The Pathfinder Concept retains the 4x4 and towing capabilities of previous versions, but adds a premium interior and advance technology to this 3-row 7 passenger SUV. On particularly family friendly feature is 3rd row accessibility. The middle row seats will tilt in a way that doesn't require the removal of a child car seat in order to access the 3rd row. Join us in the forums at DadLabs . com and tell us what you think of the new Nissan Pathfinder Concept. Episode 854 is brought to you by Nissan.
Daddy Clay: You know, what I really like about the look of this new Pathfinder concept is that it is a three row SUV, but it hides its bulk well. It is sort of athletic looking, curvilinear but not feminine. It has a good stance without being overtly macho. As my 13 year old would put it, it looks kind of "swole".
Richard Ash: What is great about the 2013 Nissan Pathfinder concept, is it really keeps the DNA of the previous version. That means it still has four by four, four‑wheel drive capability, towing capability and seating for seven. But what is different and why we are calling this the next gen SUV. Is that there is a great balance of SUV capability and interior, premium interior, versatility, and friendly advanced technology. When you get inside the vehicle, you'll notice a lot more upscale premium features then the previous version. Things like heated and cooled front seats, heated second row seats, navigation system and an innovation from Nissan is an all‑around view monitor. So that when you are backing up, you will be able to see all around the vehicle. A little bit of a safer way to back up.
What is exciting about the Nissan Pathfinder concept is we have an innovation in the second row. Consumers can enter easily into the third row, without taking a child seat out of the second row. What's great about that is, you don't have to take the child seat out and risk the fact that you are not putting it back properly. I think parents will be very, very, excited about that.
For Nissan in keeping in the spirit of innovation, this Nissan Pathfinder concept we are really excited about the fact that we are going to gain an over 25% more fuel economy with this version.
Daddy Clay: Well thanks in part to the Nissan Pathfinder, I have managed to escape the Chicago Auto show with my brain largely intact. So we want to thank the nice people at Nissan for inviting us here. We want to know what you think of their cool new car. Go to dadlabs.com and share your thoughts with us. Until then that's all for us here in the lab.

Daddy Clay reviews the 2012 Chevy Volt. Episode 831 is brought to you by BabyBjorn.
Volt is unique among electric vehicles because you have two sources of energy. You have an electric source–a battery–that allows you to drive gas free. And there's also an onboard generator that produces electricity so you can go further, though you will need gas to power the generator. While more expensive than other electric vehicles, there are still government incentives as well as gas savings to consider when examining the Volt. Other cheaper electric vehicles will get you around town just the same, but the Volt can get you as far as 375 miles away from home with a full charge and a full tank of gas for the generator. Like the other electrics, an all electric gas-free range is only about 35 miles.
With a comfortable interior and buckets seats for everyone, along with video game-like gauges and screens, the Volt is simply fun to drive. Acceleration is quick and without hesitation. However, regenerative braking has a much different and unresponsive feel compared to traditional disc or pad brake systems. This takes some getting used to.
It's kid toting friendly as the 2 back seats are LATCH equipped, but it's not exactly a big family vehicle. Because of the placement of the large ion battery, the Volt is only a 4 seater. That heavy battery also gives the Volt a low center of gravity that prevents body roll through corners and really seems to hold the car to the road.
If you have a green family of 4 (or fewer), you should definitely check out the 2012 Chevy Volt.
