Ob/Gyn Visit Tips for Due Dads

The road to fatherhood is filled with many challenges for the expecting dad, one of which is how to deal with ob gyn visits during pregnancy. In this episode of The Lab, Daddy Clay and Daddy Brad offer the top ten survival tips to dads on their first visit to the obgyn. Tips include bringing your own reading material, what kinds of things to tell your pregnant wife or partner, and types of questions you should ask the doctor. Learn how to prepare yourself for a trip to the gynecologist. It's an experience you won't want to miss out on. DadLabs The Lab ep.457 is brought to you by BabyBjorn.

DADDY CLAY: It’s come to be a sort of rite of passage for men of a certain age. A moment when you leave the carefree life behind, and enter the obligations of impending fatherhood.

DADDY BRAD: That’s right, this week we’re talking about a dude’s first visit to the gynecologist.

DADDY CLAY: This week’s show is brought to you by Baby Bjorn. Did you know there are five models of the Baby Bjorn carriers? The first person to put a comment on this video at dadlabs dot com naming all five -- you get a free Baby Bjorn Original Spirit like this one.

DADDY BRAD: There are a lot of mature and well adjusted expecting dads out there for whom a trip to the Ob/Gyn is no big deal.

DADDY CLAY: But these guys do not generally make or watch dadlabs. For the rest of you we offer our top ten gynecologist’s office survival tips.

DADDY BRAD: Bring reading materials. Perusing Fit Pregnancy may win you points, but you may want something you can really immerse yourself in during the examination.

DADDY CLAY: In the waiting room, observe another dad and reassure yourself that he is way more clueless than you.

DADDY BRAD: Comments, positive or negative, regarding the appearance of other women in the waiting room will not be welcome.

DADDY CLAY: If you have to use the facilities, remember that the little cups are not for water, and for God’s sake, put the seat down when you’re through.

DADDY BRAD: Refrain from all speech for one minute before, during, and one minute after the weigh-in.

DADDY CLAY: If it is within your power, convince your wife to have a female Ob/Gyn. This will greatly cut down on the number of doctor’s you get the urge to punch in the head during a pelvic exam.

DADDY BRAD: Bring to each appointment one canned question not about sex. Example: So, are there some household cleaners or jobs that are dangerous that I should take over? (Answer is most likely no, so this is a win-win.)

DADDY CLAY: Do not be funny. Seriously. No funny.

DADDY BRAD: Make sure that if you have made a decision to try to “preserve the magic” that you have discussed this before hand. Good luck with that.

DADDY CLAY: And our number one Gynecologist’s office survival tip. Go to every single appointment. Practice makes perfect.

DADDY BRAD: You’ll be glad you did. Your wife will feel supported, and you will not miss out on amazing moments, like the first heartbeat, or that first amazing and somewhat creepy ultrasound.

DADDY CLAY: Thanks to our sponsors Baby Bjorn, and a reminder to be the first to name all five types of baby carriers on DadLabs dot com and win a Baby Bjorn Original Spirit.

DADDY BRAD: That’s all the time we’ve got. If you’ve got a tip or a thought on Ob/Gyn survival tips, please join us on DadLabs dot com.
