DADDY CLAY: Welcome back to the lab, I’m Daddy Clay.

DADDY BRAD: And I’m Daddy Brad. You know, Daddy Clay it’s starting to get warmer which has me thinking about the pool, the beach, and healthy young lifeguards in red speedos.

DADDY CLAY: Yes and if you have kids under five and you’re not a perv like Daddy Brad, you’re probably thinking about swim lessons for the little ones.

DADDY BRAD: Here is Austin the swimming season is long and if you throw a rock at UT you’ll probably hit a gold medalist in the breaststroke.

DADDY CLAY: Or a swimmer. So we decided to hit the road to find out what parents should know about swim lessons.

DON: My name’s Don Crowly and I’m in charge of classes at the university with UT swim and diving teams. I’m the aquatics director for this team called summer sports school, the parent and infant program. Ages from 6 months to about three or four. After that they move up to independent lessons.

Our program for ten weeks for 30 minute lessons is about $99. They go all the way up to $500 depending on if you want group or private lessons. Private lessons range from 25 to $75 per hour.

On the first day of lessons show up early, make sure they have suits, don’t eat before. Parents usually aren’t as nervous as the kiddos. Be there so they can see you on the first day and the next day try to be out of their eyesight so they’ll gain more trust with the teacher.

The Humpty Dumpty board is the best game ever invented. They crawl on the board, we sing a song and then we knock them in the water so they get used to going in the proper way.

DADDY CLAY: That’s all for us from the lab, see you back here tomorrow for the lounge.

DADDY BRAD: Be safe around the pool, and we’ll see you next time.

DADDY CLAY: When did you learn to swim?

Fun Family Activity: Minor League Sports Games
Daddy Clay discusses a fun family activity; taking the kids to live soccer games. Many medium sized cities have major league soccer or minor league sports that provide an excellent venue for fun activities for children. In tough economic times it's easy to get good value out of smaller venue sporting events such as the Austin Aztex. The Austin Aztex is a professional soccer team that plays in the USL-First Division, and often plays against MLS Soccer teams. Most minor league teams play at a professional sports caliber and provide a fun, sports arena experience at a fraction of the cost of other professional and major college sports games. Grab the kids, throw on your soccer jerseys and get ready to cheer on your new favorite soccer players. Minor league baseball, hockey, basketball and Arena Football are great activities to get your kids excited about team sports, and provide an opportunity to cheer on a new professional sports team. Teach Kids About Music with Apple's Garageband
In this episode of Gear Daddy, Daddy Troy reviews Apple's Garageband software. This innovative music software is a great way to teach your kids about music theory. Garageband has great features such as magic garageband that allows kids to pick a music genre and arrange a song according to instrumentation. It's a great way to teach your kids about different music instruments, and get them familiar with the song writing process. While some music teachers may argue that this doesn't teach your kids how to play the guitar or how to play the piano. Garageband also has great interactive music lessons that include video lessons from several celebrities such as Ben Folds, Norah Jones and John Fogerty. These guitar lessons and piano lessons are a great way to learn to play guitar. Download Apple's Garageband and get your kids rocking out on the computer, and teach them a guitar lesson or piano lesson. Gear Daddy ep 531 is brought to you by BabyBjorn.
